Canon EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro Now Available...

There's been so much talk about the 5D, 7D, 550D on this board that I'm going to point to the EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro. This is supposed to speed to transcode of Canon Camera H.264 to FCP-friendly formats and let you add more metadata along the way.

Enjoy!

Canon webpage. Under Drivers & Downloads. Once you select your OS, "Mac OS X", the download should appear near the top of the "Software" list.

Note: (from Quickstart Guide)
This plug-in software allows you to convert MOV movies shot with an EOS Digital camera into ProRes files at high speed in the (Log & Transfer) window of Apple's Final Cut Pro.

FWIW: The quick start guide says cameras involved are 7D, 5D, 1D, no mention of 550D. Sort of odd.

Yeah, I follow the news regarding the "HD-DSLR" scene quite closely. So, I'm not saying it's odd, as in, Canon has made an odd omission in their documents. I'm saying, pre-announced, or not, I simply think it's peculiar that the 550D is not technically supported off the bat. I know it's a brand new camera, but how different can it's version of H.264 be from the other cams: 1D, 5D, 7D? Just saying: sounds odd to me. Maybe "odd" isn't appropriate? Interesting? Noteworthy?

Maybe the THM file has a different structure or content from the 1D, 5D, 7D which prevents compatibility or maybe the media file itself is different, be that as it may, whatever the cause, that lack of compatibility was pre-announced along with the software so I guess I just don't see it as any more surprising, odd or interesting than when it was first announced.

Sorry if that sounds glib ... its probably just altogether too late here for me to be sitting up posting! I guess I'd better sign off and get some sleep.

OK, Has anyone actually tried to use it with fcp successfully?

I installed the plugin and tried to use log and transfer but it apparently can't see the files that I had down loaded.

Then, of course, I read the pdf on the plugin. It says it has to connect directly with the camera and won't recognize and downloaded files with the eos utility. Maybe its my mac (10.6.2) but I've never been able to see the mounted internal cf card on my desktop.

Anyone else having this experience. If not what am I doing wrong??

I installed the plugin but I'm getting this error msg when trying to select native 5D .MOV files:

"xx (folder name) contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media."

Does anyone know why this could be showing up and how to fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

For users in North America to make the Canon EOS REBEL T2i work (550D for Europe):

1. Install the new Canon EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro ( http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...nloadDetailAct)

2. Go to Library/Application Support/ProApps/MIO/RAD/Plugins/CanonE1.RADPLug/Contents/Resources/

2. Open up cameras.plist

3. After the 7D info add the following lines of code (keeping to the coding structure):

<key>T2i</key>
<array>
<string>Canon EOS REBEL T2i</string>
</array>

4. Save the text file. Close it. Everything should work now.

Cheerz.

Hello All,

Thank you all for the help in solving this issue. With Easterbob's information and the online article
on PVC by Scott Simmons I got the Log and Transfer to work with my Canon T2i, quick tests show
complete functions. PVC article below:

Thanks all, Tom

Well, what do you know? Looks like I'm in excellent company... Nate Beaman says:

"This morning while hazily drinking my coffee I stumbled onto a handful of reports of the new Canon EOS movie plugin not supporting the new Canon 550D. I thought that it was odd since the camera presents the media on the cards in the same way as the other EOS cams...."

Someone should probably head over there and let Nate know how silly it was to find this so "odd".
