Canon EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro Now Available...

There's been so much talk about the 5D, 7D, 550D on this board that I'm going to point to the EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro. This is supposed to speed to transcode of Canon Camera H.264 to FCP-friendly formats and let you add more metadata along the way.

Enjoy!

Canon webpage. Under Drivers & Downloads. Once you select your OS, "Mac OS X", the download should appear near the top of the "Software" list.

Note: (from Quickstart Guide)
This plug-in software allows you to convert MOV movies shot with an EOS Digital camera into ProRes files at high speed in the (Log & Transfer) window of Apple's Final Cut Pro.

FWIW: The quick start guide says cameras involved are 7D, 5D, 1D, no mention of 550D. Sort of odd.

Hi the plug-in only works with the card file structure as it is in the log and transfer function ( file>log and transfer or shift>cmd>8 ) then if you plug a CF card from one of the supported cameras with video on it the clips will appear and you can drag them to the window at the bottom. If you have already dragged the files to a hard drive it will not work but there is a work around, just format a CF card with the camera ( big enough to hold the clips ) put it in a card reader and use disc utilities to make an uncompressed read write image of the card this will take a little while. Now mount the disc image and drag the .MOV and .THM files ( if you have binned the .THM's this wont work ) to the "100EOS5D" folder where they would normally be wait for the to copy over and launch log and transfer window and you should now see the movie files. This method of disc imaging will work for a full card as well, you might ask why bother but aprt from the good trancode the least mentioned advantage is this plug-in embeds time of day timecode based on the camera's clock is the converted files, if you understand production workflow and the problems of doing sync sound with these cameras you will see that this could be the most important feature of this plug-in
