Dual Docks with Dual Monitors?

I have a secondary monitor connected to my MACBOOK PRO, I have the dock on the MB screen, but I would also like it on the Secondary Monitor as well. I could have sworn I read about a program that makes a COPY of the dock on the second monitor so you don't have to switch back and forth all the time, but I can seem to find the article I read anywhere...

Am I crazy, or is this something that is doable? I don't want the dock on one monitor or another, I want the dock on BOTH monitors at the same time.

If you are asking about mirroring then that is possible under the system pref/monitors/arrangement/ check mirror box. If thats not what you asking, then I have never heard of splitting your dock on two screens, but thats just me it's doesn't mean it isn't out there. You can also switch your Pc to use the external monitor as the main monitor and so then you'll have your dock and menu bar on the 2nd screen.

Unfortunatly I don't want to Mirror, I want the monitors to work seperate from each other and have the dock on both monitors, I know I can have the Second as my main if I want, but that defeats the purpose of a 2nd monitor in a sense...

Curious that someone hasn't come with this yet, (including Apple)... I would think it would be logical to want the dock on both, but maybe I am wrong.

Thanks for the clarification!

The only time I have ever seen something like your describing is when you have a computer with two OSs running on it and both OSs run simultaneously. But this would seriously slow your PC/MAC down because the CPU would have to do twice the work not to mention cutting on to the memory. MACs do have bootcamp where you can run Windows on the MAC HD but to access windows you need to log out of OSX and into Windows. There is an additional program that you can buy for like $80 that'll let open both OS's at the same time and transfer data back and forth but it gets a bit complicated because windows and MAC typically use two different HD formats. Unless you format Windows with DOS but even then there are limitation as to what you can do. But even if you could split the Dock the Computer would have to have two independent Docks and you still have issues of CPU speed and excessive memory loss. But thats not to say that there isn't some sort of program out there that'll let you do that, there maybe. But I have never seen one; I've never set out in search of one either, so don't take my word for it. I like the idea though. I use two monitors myself and it can get a bit annoying having to swipe everything back forth but I guess I've just used to it.

That might have been what I was thinking I saw before... but for some reason thought it was the Dock and not the "Menu Bar".

Either way, I am getting by with what I have, just a pain...

Oh well, maybe someone will come up with something, as far as the "Screen Real-Estate" problem, you can always auto-hide the Dock, at least on the main monitor, I don't do that personally, but you could if you really needed that half-inch to 1 inch long strip of screen I guess...

Now if only there was a "Y" or splitter Connection so I can connect my Secondary Monitor, and my Cintiq 12" Tablet screen at the same time, that would be the best option... I keep having to unplug the Large screen to use the tablet, and Visa-Versa...

I know some have said they use 3 monitors, just not sure how they accomplish it...

I've seen VGA and DVI splitters. But the video card in your PC/MAC would probably have to be able to support that set up. You never know though, I have had some pretty obscure ideas of what I wanted and with a little creativity and the drive to find what I was looking for, I was able to get something set up to accomplish it. I've seen pictures of gaming fanatics who had several monitors running. there are hubs for that sort of thing but I've only seen them for VGA monitors, not DVI or Tablets. If your Tablet is wireless and uses wifi or blue tooth you may be able link over a home or work network and transfer data that way without having line connect it.

found this post trying to find an answer to the same question. what i did for now ( not ideal but better than nothing) is create aliases of all programs i need to access a lot and located them at the bottom of the 2nd monitor roughly where the dock would be.
probably not ideal if you work with movies/ graphics etc as they will overlap the aliases but I mostly work with a gazillion documents across several office applications (excel, iworks, entourage etc) and usually can get to the aliases quite ok. definitely better than having to manoeuvre over to the laptop to get to the actual dock.

or alt + cmd ()+space key will open the finder and you could keep the most urgent stuff in the sidebar there. its a short cut not enough people use i find and it doesn't really take any more time to use than going to the dock.

Hey Good news, In an effort to find an answer to the question in this thread I have found a program called Dock spaces you can download it free here: http://dock-spaces.en.softonic.com/mac/download

With this program you can have two docks with one a second monitor by using the Spaces feature on the mac. It's hard to explain how it works but you can set it up so you can switch between spaces like: space 1, space 2, a second dock will appear on the second monitor when you switch to space two. You'll get a second dock but they wont both be visible at the same time but they are independent of each other. If you're not familiar with Spaces you can find instruction on apple.com. This may help you guys out. good luck with it.

That actually works pretty decently... You can't have the dock along the bottom of the screen on the secondary monitor as far as can tell, but you can have it on the right side (vertically) on the secondary screen.

You are correct, it won't show 2 docks at the same time, but you can setup it up to simply press CMD1, or CMD2 (number 1, and 2) and it will hide one dock and switch to the other (which moves them automatically from screen to screen).

Its not perfect, but its better than nothing at this point... Thanks for the assistance!
