First Gen ipod (10MB) not mounting on desktop or itunes

Recently purchased Macbook Pro (OSX 10.5.8 itunes 9.03)

My old ipod will not mount on desktop or itunes. I just get OK to disconnect message on the ipod display. I'm wondering if the problem might be the new firewire cable. However this cable DOES work with my older firewire backup hard drive.

Hello Robert,

Have you tried resetting your iPod with it connected to your Mac? To do this, press and hold the Center and Menu buttons together until the Apple logo appears. You may want to try this a couple of times if no luck the first.

Otherwise, I would work through each troubleshooting technique described in this Apple support document as necessary.
