Google Search- How to turn off search suggestions

Hi,

Is there a way to "turn off" "search suggestions" in the search field. As I find it quite annoying when I type then move the mouse and something else gets selected other than what I typed.

Thanks for the tip, gave it a try but I believe it is only when you are at Google.com and using the search on the web page... I want to turn off search suggestions in Safari, the search field on the top right of the browser.

HI,

Go to Safari/Preferences then select Autofill.

Deselect the box next to: Other forms

Also, click that Edit button and delete and Remove All.

See if that helps...

Bill,

I just cleared ALL my cookies and it worked.

Go to Safari/Preferences / Security

Click: Show Cookies

Click: Remove All then click Done and relaunch Safari. Try the Google search field and see if any suggsestions pop up.

I don't want to get rid of the autofill as that comes in handy for me. So I hope that is not how you stop the "search suggestions".

You don't have to turn off AutoFill. See my last post below. Hope it works for you.

I deleted all cookies and restarted Safari, sorry for what ever reason didn't make a difference. As soon as I type in a letter I get a drop down with Suggestions...

I'm running Snow Leopard, 10.6.2 maybe that's the difference... argh!

Ok.. if I come across a fix we haven't tried, I'll post and hopefully someone else will have an answer.

Might you have a Safari 3rd party plugin or add-on? Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.

Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or *have performance issues*

I'll look into your suggestions here, and it is funny you mention 3rd party issues as I found one program that supposed to let you change or add to the search...

I wrote that wrong... I found a program I could install to change it.

I didn't install it yet as I want to find out more on it.

Hi Bill

Easiest way to eliminate the Google "help" search prompts is to install 3rd party freeware Glims. Latest version build is available here.

Once installed you'll find Glims as a separate panel in your Safari Preferences. If it doesn't appear in the panel list, click on the right pointing arrows at the end of the Preference Panels.

Glims provides a number of very useful features for Safari. Specific to your needs, go to Glims' search suggestions sub-panel. There, you can deselect the "auto complete phrase in the search field". Additionally, Glims provides a very helpful search drop down panel for quick access to searches.

There's more to discover with Glims. Clicking on the various sub-panels will reveal other features, including specific search engine options.
