Importing from a Panasonic HDC TM700

I just got this Panasonic which is able to shoot video at 1080p 28Mbps. I know that this format is not AVCHD compliant, and currently not recognized by iMovie 09.
Does anyone know of a work around? The first step is getting the files imported into the Mac, and then the next would be to see if one of the converters could convert it to AIC, which I was hoping would work as they are .mts files.

24" iMac 2.8GHz, Mac OS X (10.6.2), 13" Macbook Pro 2.26mHz

I found it is a ton smoother than quicktime is for playing these 1080p/60 files. Still a little buggy but it does work.

Don't necessarily expect full frame rates though. On my machine, the 1080/60p video plays back at a "smooth" 20 frames per second, but at least it does play at a consistent rate.

Augsburg57: A 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo is probably not going to be able to handle 1080/60p video at the full frame rate. You'll probably need at least an i5 or possibly an i7.

I see what you mean about the dates being messed up during the conversion - I would like to know if there is a way to utilize the convenience of the Automator drop for the files that I want to re-wrap but still keep the original EXIF data intact for the m4v?

It looks like you were able to do this in the KSH scripts that you posted on AVS - although I am having a problem implementing the command line solution that you described there.

I just got the camera and shot some footage of the dogs at the lake - Oh so Very Impressed!! - Feels like I am there again - now if I can just get the footage to convert and archive with the creation dates that would help a lot.

I believe it is possible to convert those KSH shell scripts Automator actions, but I personally don't know how.

I did try to copy the original EXIF data to the m4v file but exiftool doesn't support writing tags to that particular file type. That's why I had to use the touch command to change at least the modification date of the .m4v file to be the same as the original .MTS files.

Hey Everyone,

I have a new question for you guys that have a Panasonic TM-700K. I recorded a short film in the HA setting instead of using 1080 60p. I believed that I recorded it in 1080 60i mode and then imported into Final Cut Pro using the log and transfer protocol. I used the AVCHD 1080 60i easy setup, but when I tried dragging the files from the capture scratch window into the timeline I got a message that said something like Final Cut Pro needs to reformat your timeline for the proper frame rate and video setting. When I clicked yes I then looked at the video properties in the timeline and they were set to 29.97. Did I not record in 60 fps, and if I didn't, where do I change that setting in the camera? Or is it something with the log and transfer settings? Thanks for your help, I just want to be able to edit the timeline in 1080 60i using the properly formatted footage.

A MBP I7 17" seems to play 1080p60 in iMovie very smoothly -- except unless you alter the plist you are only playing at 30fps So you aren't really watching 60fps. But, that's find while you edit. Before exporting, you need to alter the plist.

QT X was unable to play it smoothly because it really tried to play at 60fps.

Bottom-line you need the i7 in the iMac not the i7 in a MBP. The iMac offers far greater performance because it is a true QUAD CORE.

PS: has anyone found how to see the playing frame rate in QT X?
