How do I make a aaf or omf file type

Hi all,
How would one create an aaf or omf and which would be preferred? In audio with logic pro 9, I can create an aiff. How do I create the file type to import video into a soundtrack pro session. I'm guessing here but please let me know if I'm on the right path. Is it that modern day recorders load info to computer with a certain file format and then you take that file and convert it to aaf or omf?

Any response or direction in readings would be much appreciated.

you need to explain what you're really trying to do. STP will import/open a lot of different file types. OMF has a special purpose.
Are you trying to sync to picture?
aiff and wav and mp3 files, for example work just fine in STP.

I've been dabbling with music software a couple yrs. Protools, Propellerhead, and recently Logic Pro 9. Along with the Logic studio, which I purchased for the logic pro 9, came soundtrack pro. I'd like to purchase the right camera and figure out how to put a video/audio package together of 3 to 5 minute video clips. I can get audio into soundtrack pro (still unclear if I should import them from logic sessions (what file type, I currently dragged audio file in and also imported audio from LP9 session and it worked) or import them from Pro tools (not sure if I would import aiff or wav,for audio, and in reading digi has the dv production pkg. that you can create a omf file, although PT is audio so I don't see what omf does).
In short, I'm going to try shooting video, recording audio, and sink and manipulate the two in soundtrack(or upping to a final cut or....) . I have no current video files and trying to figure out how to create an aaf or omf to stick in a soundtrack session. Been reading abit about minidv,prosumerdv, professional(somethingdv),. Once I get a camera, will it be recognized by computer (would that be usb, or FW400) what's the format from the camera in and how does it get converted to a file type that the soundtrack works with?

well no, you're not looking for aaf or omf. Your wav and aiff files are what you want.
What you really want is video editing software. They way you're setting yourself up is shuffling audio between 3 different programs (you need only one) but you have nothing for the video edit. You at least have iMovie. And you could get Final Cut Express or final cut studio. Final cut Pro and STP are designed to work with each other: You "send" a video project from Final Cut to STP, where it opens with all your audio tracks laid out and all your audio edits and adjustments carrying forward from FCP to STP. That what OMF does with other systems. You can export from Final cut single audio tracks, and import them into all sorts of other audio software. But you don't have Final Cut or any other video editing software. That's the hole in your system.
Note that STP is not intended for music mixing. You can do it, but not as easily as you can in those packages oriented towards music. Conversely, STP is better at sound for picture. I can suggest getting an account at Lynda.com and watching their tutorials. It's one of the best bargains on the web. For $25/month you get unlimited access. Their videos are excellent and you'll be amazed how quickly you can get the gist of the technical side.

Thanks for the return reply. I've been and will continue to catch up on this, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Just one more question. Why do you think they ganged up logic pro 9,Mainstage, and soundtrack in the logic studio? I see how useing logic instruments in mainstage relates, but why through the soundtrack pro (video) in there. I must read on.mmm., and I just check and don't see this i-movie. Did I get jipped!? ha ha

iMovie should be on your Mac. Sorry but I've never touched it, so I don't know what it can export. I'm sure it can open/import all sorts of elements, though probably through iTunes. There's always a work around. That what you develop in this business with years of experience.
No idea why they bundle all that stuff. Sounds like a good deal. Most of the people who use Final Cut Studio don't use STP or Color and don't seem to care.
