How to save a cached Vimeo video?

How to save a cached Vimeo video?

I have waited until the whole 169MB of a Vimeo video has downloaded. In my Safari window, I can instantly move back and forth without waiting for any data traffic on the DSL connection.

Where is this cached file sitting? I would very much like to keep it so I can view it offline, and so I don't have to wait once again for it to download. Connection speed is very bad, so I can't afford to wait another 25' every time I need to watch it.

BTW I know how to save a local copy of a YouTube video. Double clicking/Option clicking/Copying the video file entry from the Activity Window and pasting it into the Downloads window just doesn't do it.

Hi Carolyn, thanks for the post; been there already, I'm afraid it's unrelated.

To think that the file is sitting already on my disk but I don't know where...

Have you tried a Spotlight search?

If you have a website, if you use your mouse to hover over the right side of a video ONLINE, there is an option to embed that video. Example here. http://www.vimeo.com/10228663

I'm trying to think of options...

Hi Alex

the 'youtube' method you described works fine for the video that Carolyn linked us to - an mp4 file is shown in activity & downloads fine when option-double-clicked.
Is the one you're looking at different, in that no large video file is visible?

Hi Alex

yes, it's the same deal with that one.

Load the page - open Activity window - click play & look for a file in the list that's still loading - yours is 169MB, as you said.

Highlight that line in the list. hold down the Option key, and double click the file - it should appear in your downloads window as an mp4.

Works here, anyway.

@andyball_UK: I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. I do exactly like you describe, but the file that appears at the bottom of my Downloads window immediately stops at 0Kb, stating smth like "You have no read permissions for this file" under the download's progress bar.

UPDATE: Stop Press: I just tried it again (after a reboot) and it works! Go figure!

that's odd yes, seems a reboot reset something related.

Actually, increasing numbers of websites for video & music code their pages so that a 'forbidden' or 'file not found' message is normal when you try this - they don't want their files downloaded, and have taken steps to prevent it.
