External monitor not working, again, with update to 10.6.3

Honestly, I'm ****** over this since it is the same effects I saw with 10.6.1. and my external monitor a Samsung 2032 NW. After installing the update to 10.6.3 and restarting I cannot get the system to cooperate with the external monitor just like I grew use to doing after the fiasco with OS 10.6.1.

I used to plug everything in, including the Samsung, and push the start buttons on both the monitor and MacBook Pro and then close the laptop. The monitor's button stayed a steady blue until the startup was complete. Then a "check signal cable" warning would come up after a few seconds. I could then push any key on the external keyboard and that monitor would come on as it should.

What did Apple do this time?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2), Update to 10.6.3

i have exactly the same problem with the same monitor.

not working with 1680 x 1050 at 60Hz which is the recommended resolution according to the samsung manual, it will only work at 1600 x 1000 at 60Hz and its a bum because it isn't clear.

Tried using SwitchResX and it still doesn't work...

Am connecting it via VGA to mini DP but am going to get a DVI cable to see if it will solve this issue.

fingers crossed.

will post if it works.

I'm having the same problem with a 22" Samsung monitor. Had to switch to a lower (and blurry) resolution. Providing better support for these problems would be nice, 'cause the only way I'm gonna buy an Apple monitor is if they send me one for free. It's hard to design work with a blurry monitor, but I bet they don't deal with that with all of their fancy Apple displays. What I'm saying here is that I think Apple should send me one for free.

For free.

I think we are all having problems with various Samsung 22" ViewSonics that run ideally at 1680x1050. This is a pretty popular monitor, so I'm surprised that this problem hasn't been squashed quickly.

That's because it's becoming clear you need one of the Samsungs in question or one of a few other monitors to experience the issue, as most third party monitors seem to be working fine.

I hope someone here has contacted Apple and/or AppleCare as this is the type of information Apple engineering would need, and recall this is a user-to-user forum and for the most part we're all just Mac users here.

William, I mistakenly thought these conversations were reviewed. So I've now sent notice about this problem to the Apple Team.

Thanks for correcting my mistake!

No problem.

Keep in mind that Apple engineers do occasionally read these boards, but it's on their own time, so the way to explicitly get Apple's attention on an issue is to contact them directly, usually via AppleCare or, if you have a (free) developer account, by filing a bug using the Apple Bug Reporter.

I contacted apple support after buying my MacPro and being very disappointed that I couldn't use the new HD monitor I'd bought specially (Samsung SyncMaster T220HD) They never managed to even work out the problem let alone fix it. But they are aware of it for all the good the 90 day Apple Care did me.

That was with Leopard, the update to Snow Leopard fixed it. The last update killed it again. The only thing I have found is that if you use a DVI > VGA adapter then it works. Albeit on a lower quality it is at least useable. Very odd, same cable, same hole on Mac add the adapter and plug into VGA hole and it works. Nope, the apple techs couldn't understand either.

I guess we have to wait for apple to accidentally fix this just like they accidentally broke it. Till then using the VGA input will have to do, at least it'll go up to 1680x1050 still.

I just upgraded my MBP (early 2008) with 512meg Vram to SL 10.6.3 and am running a Samsung 2494 24" at 1920 X 1080 off the MBP video port with a VGA adapter. Works fine. Is anybody else using 24" displays that are having problems? I'm thankful to not be having the same problems as all of you but would be just as upset if I were. And, I still need to check my USB video card I connect to to see if my second Samsung 2494 still works. I never got around to using "Time Machine" for backups ( I guess I better get me another big drive and start using it). Apple should make this a priority fix for everyone. I run mostly music software but I bet video and graphic professionals must really be freaking out.

Good luck, everybody.

This bug really suck!
My Samsung 223BW was only working fine with MacOS 10.5.
This problem had appear when I first installed Snow Leopard.
I had a workaround to be able to use 1680 x 1050 but it was just annoying.
Since I've installed 10.6.3 it does not work anymore at all!
Impossible to find a MacOS specialist to find help...
