External monitor not working, again, with update to 10.6.3

Honestly, I'm ****** over this since it is the same effects I saw with 10.6.1. and my external monitor a Samsung 2032 NW. After installing the update to 10.6.3 and restarting I cannot get the system to cooperate with the external monitor just like I grew use to doing after the fiasco with OS 10.6.1.

I used to plug everything in, including the Samsung, and push the start buttons on both the monitor and MacBook Pro and then close the laptop. The monitor's button stayed a steady blue until the startup was complete. Then a "check signal cable" warning would come up after a few seconds. I could then push any key on the external keyboard and that monitor would come on as it should.

What did Apple do this time?

Good news, I 'm not with SL 10.6.4 and still have my Samsung Syncmaster 223BW.

I have a new mini DVI-to-VGA cable and it works.

In fact, I 'm not 100% sure that it was the cable, because it did not work the first time I plugged it into my macbook.

But, I noticed that there is two 1680x1050, 59.9mhz for my Samsung. So I selected "Activer la recopie video" and then "Désactiver la recopie video" (this is the only way I had to use my external display at 1680x1050). Then, I choosed the another 1680x1050, 59.9mhz. Reboot the Mac to try and, what a miracle, it works!!

kwikeeguy, can you run your external display at its native resolution when the internal display is off (lip closed)?

For me that's only working when both displays are on.

It's working for me, even when the lid is closed. I guess it's because I set the bad 1680x1050 to redirect to the good one, see my post in the other thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2387462&start=30&tstart=0

I haven't tried anything further since getting it to work using SwitchResX. I never thought to test it before the fix with the lid closed. I use both monitors during everyday work.
