Installed 10.6.3 and now Photoshop CS3 won't open

Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, Photoshop CS3 hasn't been the same. Whether it is the OS or the new drivers to manage my printer and my scanner, I don't know.

Today, I had been working on Photoshop all day and at some point the computer got slow and it told me it had a software update. I decided to save everything I was doing, quit Photoshop and install Mac OS 10.6.3 hoping it was the answer to all the glitches.

Instead, Photoshop won't open at all anymore. I have restarted, shut down, repaired permissions, reinstalled the program, updated everything and it still won't open. It's the only program affected from my design suite as far as I can tell, but it's also the one I use the most!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this has been covered, but I was having same crashing issue with CS3 after 10.6.3 upgrade. I did a get info on the Illustrator.app and "Open in Rosetta" was unchecked. I checked it, just out of curiosity, and Illustrator now runs with out a hiccup. I went back and unchecked "Open in Rosetta" and it still runs. Not sure why, but this seams to have fixed the problem for me not just for AI but also PS. I haven't checked the other apps yet.

r.

I don't know how much my situation might be related with the issue at hand: I was still using Adobe Illustrator CS on my MacBook Pro (obviously, through Rosetta). After the upgrade to SL 10.6.3 the application crashed every time it tried to open a document. No usual system maintenance procedure (trashing caches, cleaning permissions, etc.) could solve the problem, but just removing the preferences plist file did and now everything seems to work well again.
The fact that I'm still using such a jurassic version of AI stems from two reasons:
- AI is my principal tool to create the illustrations I need for my teaching and research activity, but my requirements are quite simple and I'm not compelled to upgrade.
- after version CS Adobe has gone the "activation" way for the Mac platform. After some horrible experiences, I've come to detest this form of sw protection and I limit the purchase of activated (or, more precisely, "to be activated") sw to the cases of absolute necessity.
The bug with CS3 seems to be connected with the procedure the application performs to verify proper activation: this confirms me in my choice of boycotting the producers of activated sw.

Thank you! This has been driving me crazy and your solution worked for me. I went to applications, highlighted photoshop CS3, chose file, get info, and unchecked the "open in Rosetta" option. Now it works like a charm.

I've never had such trouble with a Mac upgrade...first my printer, now this...I'm afraid to turn it on tomorrow...lol.

Last Thursday I shipped my MacMini to the Apple Store in Tucson to fix the SN (mine read SystemSerialNumb), as we have no Apple techs here in Sierra Vista, and it's very difficult for me to travel. While they promised a 72 hr turnaround, it wound up 7 days later! Guess my fix was not as important as others...but I wouldn't have minded so much if they hadn't PROMISED me that turnaround.

Anyway, my SN is now burned properly on my logic board, and voila! All my CS3 apps work!
Thanks guys, this is a GREAT forum.

*I replaced the Hard Drive in my iMac a few weeks ago myself. Which does void any applecare support. Support for mine ended last fall*.

*So How will I be able to get the apple store techs to implement a correct serial number for free or even do the job when they will find out that I replaced the Hard Drive myself.????*

I use CS3 all the time and I'm running 10.6.2.. I'd hate to note receive security updates & OS updates.. I am not looking forward to shed out $500 for the current Creative Site either.

I think I will wait out for the next update with hopes 10.6.4 may fix whatever 10.6.3 messed up.

I just don't want to go to my nearest Apple Store *( 50 mile round trip )* for nothing. Apple techs will know I replaced the Hard Drive myself. I will call Apple Care before wasting time driving down there for them to tell me they won't work on my iMac.. And I'm not looking forward to pay for the job nor for a new version of Creative Suite.
