The comment about backlight set to zero made me think about something that might have caused the problem for me. Well, first, I should say that I have two sleep-related programs installed: Caffeine and Jiggler, neither of which is normally active nor was active when I encountered problems. The thing that I thought of though is related to a separate problem I encountered.
Apple is aware of this problem and ignored it, but it was a problem with all the Macbook Pros before the unibody design, where the latch is shody. You try to close the computer and it starts to go to sleep, then the sloppiness in the latch makes it think that you opened it up and it wakes up again. This is REALLY a problem if you try to move your MBP when it is closed and asleep. Frequently, I would pull my MBP out of my bag blazing hot with the fans running and battery nearly dead. In order to avoid this, Apple says that you have to turn the computer off to move it! (Not a solution.)
So, I found some instructions online that involved entering a sudo command into the terminal:
sudo pmset -a lidwake 0
I'm pretty sure that this setting would have been overwritten when I did the PRAM set. Would it have changed when I upgraded from 10.4 to 10.6? Answer=no. I ran a
pmset -g
and it told me the lidwake is still set for zero. More specifically:
Currently in use:
womp 1
sms 1
hibernatefile /var/vm/sleepimage
ttyskeepawake 1
acwake 0
sleep 15
autorestart 1
halfdim 1
hibernatemode 0
disksleep 10
displaysleep 5
lidwake 0
I still haven't reverted to 10.6.2 since I haven't synced/backed up my portable devices, so I changed the lidwake back to 1 except when it is running from the battery. I do care if my computer turns back on after I close it on my desk/bar, but as long as it is plugged in it is just wasting electricity and not negatively effecting my MBP (as it does when it goes psycho in my computer bag).
Any further thoughts?
