Replacing macbook pro fan.

Hey,

I've had this macbook pro for 9 months now and recently it started this strange fan noise, first i oiled the fan and it did help for few weeks.
Then it started again and im just asking that does it cancel my warranty if i replace it with better and more quiet one?
And no, im not going to send this macbook to warranty, only because i don't wan't to wait for weeks. I need this thing for work you know...
Sorry about the spelling but english isn't my main language.

Macbook pro 13", Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Im pretty good with pc hardware (Builded my own pc systems for a long time and done voltage mods on mobos for overclocking) and i'll just replace it with 25e fan which is far more better than current one instead of paying 100e(135usd) for this same one.
"I would never oil the fan." WHAT?! Why are even helping people if you don't know that this is a basic thing to do when you have noisy/broken fan?
I only did ask does it cancel my warranty or not! Oh my god...
And im not raging at you, just saying that don't say anything if you don't know anything about it...

Replacing your fan with a nonstandard part will certainly void your warranty, if oiling the original fan didn't.

I don't know whether you actually had some reason to think repairing your computer at no cost under warranty would take weeks, or whether that was just something you imagined would happen in the absence of any concrete information. But waiting weeks for a repair is certainly not the norm.

And BTW, sig does know something about it. He's given good advice to thousands of people here. Most of them were grateful for it.

You may well have voided the warranty already by oiling the fan, jerhi, if the fact that you have done so is evident. Using the wrong oil or using too much of it is likely to cause far more harm than good.

I very much doubt that you will find a third party fan that actually fits, unless you hack the existing fan enclosure to install a replacement. This will certainly void any warranty you may have had. Notebook computer manufacturers generally don't take kindly to people messing with the cooling systems of their computers!

Generally fan noise in Macs isn't due to bearing lubrication issues anyway, but simply to dirt build up on the fan blades. If a bearing issue has occurred within the first few months then you would be crazy not to simply have it replaced with the correct original part under warranty.

Replacing the fan in this computer is very straightforward . If you ring an AASP or Apple Store genius bar beforehand to make an appointment, or take the computer in to demonstrate the problem they will probably be able to order the part in (if they don't already have it in stock) and replace it on the spot. It is unlikely to result in any lengthy wait.

If you are determined to do the job yourself then you can see http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-MacBook-Pro-13-Inch-Unibody-Fan/13 38/1 for a link to buying the relevant replacement part.

If the fan was noisy/broken, you should have had it inspected by Apple, or an appropriate third-party repair facility. The fans have sealed fluid dynamic bearings, and oiling them might temporarily alleviate the noise, but it most assuredly contaminated the interior of your computer with a lubricant residue.

If you put a non-standard part in an Apple product, your warranty will probably be voided because: 1) the part is non-standard and 2) you (not an authorized Apple technician) put it in, or even opened the case.

My fan is also making noise, I cleaned and lubed it which lasted or a few days, but I will probably have to replace it, which I will do myself since Apple charges so much for service and parts. But, I will replace it with a standard part.

I had a noisy left fan on a MBP 2.53. Took it to an Authorized Apple Service Center and dropped it off in the morning and had it back in the afternoon.

I tinkered with it and it looked very delicate, small screws etc. I replaced it with a fan from another MBP, noise gone. It seems it was a bad fan to begin with. Service Center did the replacement at no charge.

Just take it in.
