iPhone 3G stuck at the Apple logo screen and will not boot!

I am having the exact same issue. My phone was working until 9:45 pm CDT tonight when, during a call, the call dropped and the phone reported 'No Signal.'

I rebooted the phone and have been having the exact same issues as the OP. I have tried all of the OP's remedial steps as well without success.

mine is doing the same thing did either of you find a solution to this problem?

Just incase anyone wants to know i took it to my local apple store, they attempted to run diagnostics and decided that the iPhone was trashed and could not be fixed. I had to shell out another $200 dollars and buy a NEW not refurbished iPhone 3g with them taking the old paper weight. So i don't know if this is how everyone experience with this problem will turn out but this is how mine was, i also would like to complement apple on their service and customer support.

This fix worked for a few boot loops I got stuck on before. If you're on a 64 OS you may want to look into libusb for 64 bit machines. I had it stuck on 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 like this before.

Hey i kind of have the same issue.
I bought a iphone about 1 year ago and about 2 months ago i was not able to see any wifi connections in the area or connect to any even though i was sure that there was a wifi nearby and my fellow coleauges could connect to it with their iphone. I thought that this might have something to do with the "restrictions" so i went to turn the restrictions off but realised that it had a passcode that i had forgotten. I wasnt able to restore it within the iphone so i restored it from my computer. Once i had finished the iphone had a " connect to itunes " on the screen and it said that there was no sim car installed, even though there was. I tried cleaning the sim card and everything else, i tried connecting it to itunes but it just said no sim card installed. Now i cannot use my iphone or cant even activate it. I have also tried to restore it in recovery mode but ended up with the same problem. Please Help.! Thanks

Symptom, No signal in the middle of the city for a long time! Then did a turn off/on method, which resulted in the logo to be stuck for an hour. When I got home plugged it in and did a hard reboot. Did see occasionally the wheel, but it mainly stayed motionless. Then it turned to a black screen, and then the battery showed very low, and is charging. After a little while the battery view changed to the apple logo, and it sits there, and sits there . . . . . . I will update if I have any success!!

Same thing. Rebooted after a backup and now the phone won't go past the apple logo. Just shuts off.

Hi, I faced the same issue yesterday.
Firstly, open iTunes and Conect your iPhone cord to your computer, but DO NOT plug it into your iPhone.
Secondly, then press and hold the home button on your phone while conecting the iPhone cord into your iPhone.
Thirdly, continue to hold down the home button. You should see a picture showing cable, arrow pointing to iTunes on phone screen.
Then click restore in iTunes.

This worked for my issue- I would have rather found one myself instead of driving the 45 minutes to the Apple Store just to be told that there is nothing that they can do and have to buy a new one for $200 (have already been down that road before).
I was wondering- previous users that have used this method, did this issue ever happen again? I don't want to be blindsided with this again because I am lible to throw my iPhone at someone at the Apple Store.

it came on after having the screen replaced; was fine before.

I've tried Recovery mode, DFU mode, iTunes, Xcode, Restores to new OS, old OSs..
iRecovery to access iBoot....

no success.

Anyone?
