MobileSync has stopped working

When I try and sync, I get 2 error messages in separate windows:

"MobileSync has stopped working" and "Yahoo go sync client has stopped working".

I have reinstalled itunes, but still get the error.

I know my calendar no longer syncs, but have not yet discovered if anything else still syncs.

I am running Vista Pro.

I have followed the instructions on the Apple site to remove ALL apple software from the computer, and to reinstall iTunes.

I still have the same problem. My ipod Touch is now a useless piece of equipment, since I can no longer carry my contacts and diary with me, and have had to go back to my iPaq since I am not prepared to wait a couple of months for Apple to fix this bug (and introduce a few more) with an untested version of iTunes.

This is a last resort at getting the problem solved before I abondon any plans of upgrading to an iPhone.

None of the renames worked for me but I was able to get my Mobilesync working by appending the following to my Path statement under Control Panel, System, Advanced Settings, Advanced, Systems Variables.
;c:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\

I was having problems with SyncServer aborting and someone suggested the following which worked and got me to the Mobilesync error-
;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\

Hope this helps

ITUNES is the worst application ever made. Apple should be disgraced by releasing this POS. Let me count the ways.

1 Updates every few weeks, that are full application installs of 90+megs
2 Every update kills the shortcut for the previous 100 versions
3 every time you open the application it goes through installation
4 Seems like every release breaks something now I can't sync
5 How slow can that application be?
6 change the user interface between version GREAT idea morons!
7 Nothing is intuitive as far as getting to the settings, album art ETC

Bravo APPLE bravo

I have been following this quite a while here are some of my reading

Seems that for iTunes 9.1 Apple has change some of the DLL routine attribute

For iTune syncServer issue.
Search for duplicate duplicate copies of
sqlite3.dll
libxml2.dll
libtidy.dll
Rename them if you found them on your system32 folder

For mobilesync stop working error

Search for duplicate duplicate copies of
Libeay32.dll
Ssleay32.dll
libcurl.dll
Rename them if you found them on your system32 folder

Searching files in window vista environment is not so user friendly.

You may want to search using the old command prompt.

Click on the start button
In the search box type cmd and press enter
A DOS window will open
Type cd\ and press enter,
Next type dir filename /s {example : dir libeay32.dll /s}
Wait for the search to complete until the blinking C: prompt appears.

Hi

I advise you shouldn’t be doing this if you are not sure of the operation.
Adjusting and adding variables in the environment variables dialog boxes are for primary programmers and advance system users only.

Environment variables are a set of dynamic named values that can affect the way running processes will behave on a computer

For Windows Vista:
1. Right click “My Computer” icon
2. Choose “Properties” from context menu
3. Click “Advanced” tab (“Advanced system settings” link in Vista)
4. In the Edit windows, modify PATH by adding the location of the class to the value for PATH. If you do not have the item PATH, you may select to add a new variable and add PATH as the name and the location of the class as the value

Example of modify %PATH% variable

This variable contains a semicolon-delimited (do not put spaces in between) list of directories in which the _command interpreter will search for an executable file that matches the given command_

Variable name: Path
Variable value: %SystemRoot%\system32;%CommonProgramFiles%\Apple\Apple Application Support

Note
Other conflicts problems may also arise with the setting and also use up systems resources, because you are the directing the OS to search for these independent paths globally even if the program is not running and since it is manually edited it will not remove automatically when the program is uninstalled.

On other hand if you are familiar with systems programming and operation this is another option can consider.

Just my opinion

Regards

Alvin

Replacing the libeay32.dll file in the system 32 and system 64 folders worked for me. I tried it in just the system 32 folder, but still got the "Mobile sync" and "Yahoo sync" errors. Once I renamed the folder in both system folders everything synced. Then I tried replacing the files with the updated dll file in the Apple Mobile Device file and everything still works fine.

To do it, I used windows search, waited for the system to find all of the files. Copied the file in the Apple Mobile Device folder to the system folders and deleted the old files. Now I'm finally back in the game. So far, everything syncs and all of my applications are working. Thank you Alvin!

Rejoice, Rejoice!!
I am running an Acer computer and had the same Sync problems with my iPhone thru iTunes.
I am not a geek but I read somewhere that the file 'libeay32.dll' causes the conflict. Acer have that file on the following link; C:/program files/Acer/Empowering Technology/eData Security/x64. I simply renamed the file (aaalibeay32.dll) and my iPhone works perfectly. I can't say how this effects the Acer program, but I will rename the file back to it's original name in due course.

Hope this helps you mate and please let me know how you get on...fingers crossed!

i have exactly same situation as sminky pinky. iPhone with Acer laptop. guess i should have posted earlier, but yeah, i solved my problem in the same way. renaming the file 'libeay32.dll' (found in C:/program files/Acer/Empowering Technology/eData Security/x64) to "old.dll". it allowed my iPhone to sync calendars and contacts with my Outlook again! but not quite the same as before.

one difference after this incident is that i started to get repeated occurences of birthdays showing up in my calendar. previously, birthday entries show up in calendar as recurring all-day events, recurring on 12am each year. after this episode, some of my birthdays were changed to start at 7am and end on 7am the next day. not a very big problem, but it made my calendar look messy and confusing because i had birthdays spanning across two days! anyone experiencing the same problem? my solution to this is super primitive: manually amending each event.

still disappointed that Apple did not come up with a fix for such a big iPhone community, leaving us all to figure out solutions ourselves. also, wonder if there will be any implications in renaming the 'libeay32.dll' file

I've copied all these files, as directed, changed the path, as directed. I still can't sync my iPhone with my Acer running Vista 32 bit. I've uninstalled, reinstalled and followed the suggestions of clearing the history, etc. as recommended on the apple support pages.

I noted on one thread in relation to this, which was 27 pages long, that many of us are still suffering, weeks after updating iTunes.

How long before Apple fix this problem, which started with the latest update, and send us the fix or an update the works for Windows?

If you want to let Apple know how satisfied you are with their pro-active handling of this problem:

: Launch iTunes
: Open the Help menu item at the top of the iTunes screen
: Click on "Provide iTunes Feedback"
and then say thank you for caring enough to address this issue in a caring and timely fashion.
