itunes 9.1 for windows causes visual c++ runtime error r6034

howdy y'all,

my setup ...
os = win xp pro, sp3, current patches installed
itunes = 9.1.0.79

the original update was thru the apple software updater. after the error showed up on 1st start of itunes, i ...
= rebooted the system = no fixee
= uninstalled itunes, rebooted, reinstalled itunes, rebooted = no fixee

since i updated to 9.1 i get the following errors at itunes startup ...
[1] visual c++ runtime error r6034

after i hit ok for item [1] i get ...
[2] itunes cannot sync information ..SNIP.. because syncing has been disabled on this computer. do you want to enable syncing?
if you do not enable ..SNIP.. to your ipod.

after i hit yes for item [2] i get ...
[3] itunes was unable to load provider data from sync services. reconnect or try again later.

after i hit ok for item [3] itunes runs.

the itouch shows up in the left panel "devices" list and is selectable. pressing the sync button on the itouch summary page triggers TWO dialogs of item [1]! hitting ok on them lets the sync go forward. i presume the only actual sync going on is the music. the sync finishes with no errors and says "ipod sync is complete. ok to disconnect."

i haven't tested to get confirmation that anything is being synced so it might just be going thru the motions.

item [1] is listed on the ms site here ...
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms235560%28VS.80%29.aspx

it says the error is caused by a missing "manifest" and the fix is to rebuild the app with a proper one.

links to the 3 error msg screen captures ...

http://img6.imageshack.us/i/itunes91startuperror02.png/
http://img408.imageshack.us/i/itunes91startuperror03.png/

otherwise, itunes runs in its usual slothful [on windows] and crash-prone [on windows] manner.

help, please?

take care,
lee

howdy Matthew110607,

(aside - how the heck do you get this forum to quote a previous post?)

if you want someone to be able to easily help you, i recommend posting the exact steps you took and the results. then anyone who wants to help will have the info right in front of them. it makes a big difference. far, far easier than flipping back to a different post and wondering if you followed all of it. (grin)

howdy Matthew110607,

did you tell windows to show hidden and system files? by default a search should NOT find the sql & xml dll files cuz they are normally hidden.

for me the files referred to in the many threads on the 9.1 update snafu are here ...
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support"

... and they are named ...
libtidy.dll
libxml2.dll
SQLite3.dll

i copied ONLY the SQLite3.dll file to ...
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support"

... and things started working, mostly. the r6034 error STILL happens when i do anything that tries to sync external stuff like contacts. so my contacts have NOT been synced in some time now. (sigh)

it seems you are on win7, so the paths above are likely different. (grin)

if you are seriously annoyed with 9.1, you CAN revert to the old one. there's a thread that has a how-to. take a lookit this ...

hope that helps,

I have the EXACT same issue with my iPhone 3G. As soon as I upgraded to 9.1.0.79 for Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, I get a simular error message with iTunes and my iPhone 3G. I get the message...

"iTunes cannot sync information with the iPhone "my phone name" because syncing has been disabled on this computer.Do you want to enable syncing?

To which I respond by clicking the YES button. After a few seconds, i get the following pop up:

"iTunes was unable to load provider data from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later."

Yes, I have waited some time and I have reconnected. I have even re-installed (yes, the 64 bit version) only to have the exact same issue.

I have uninstalled every apple product and even deleted all traces of iTunes from my computer and then reinstall to get the same exact error. I also did this on my laptop too to have the exact same thing happen there too.

-I have Windows 7 Ulitmate 64 Bit
-Microsoft Security Essentials Antivirus
-Windows Firewall is disabled
-No other firewall or antivirus or anti-adware or anti-spyware product installed.

Please HELP! This is so frustrating!

I had been running iTunes 9.0.x on WinXP Pro. For **MANY** months I had the problem where iTunes crashed if I connect & select my iPhone 3GS, then click on the Apps or Podcasts tab. BTW, I've got automatic sync turned off, so it wasn't syncing at the time. (I could sync ok without clicking on these tabs ... but I couldn't unselect various podcasts, etc., without which I didn't have space for anything new!)

So I thought I'd try updating to iTunes 9.1 ... now I get the errors described in this thread as soon as I connect my iPhone ... so basically the problems start sooner than they used to ... that's some progress. But the good news is I can now click on those tabs without a crash ... so the previous problem is gone, at least for now! (This is happened before, when trying suggestions found online; but then it returned soon.) I have not tried starting a sync, because I'm afraid of what I might discover next!

I'll try some of the suggestions described in this thread when I'm more awake.

After trying various approaches I found online, I was able to workaround the problem as follows. I added this to the SYSTEM PATH:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
I added it JUST BEFORE THIS (only folder in path which contained one of the potential conflicting files: older version of SQLITE3.DLL):

E:\Program Files\calibre

To create new SYSTEM PATH:
PATH=C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;
c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\binn\;
C:\Program Files\Intel\DMIX;
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support;
E:\Program Files\calibre;
C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\

But now the older problem I described in my previous message IS BACK!!! This is getting even more ridiculous!

I was having this same problem along with alot of other error codes and system crashes upon installing iTunes 9.1 (blue screen of death, complete system freeze). Additionally, every time I plugged in my iPod Touch, the system crashed, ditto for iPad. Then an enterprisiing Apple Support Senior Tech, after 1 1/2 weeks of calls to system engineers, came up with this solution. IT WORKED FOR ME! Hope it can help someone else. Here it is:

If you have installed iTunes 9.1, uninstall in the following order using Add/Remove Programs under Control Panel: 1) iTunes, 2) QuickTime, 3) Apple Application Support, 4) Apple Mobile Device Support, 5) Apple Software Update, 6) Bonjour.

Restart your computer.

Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\

Look in each and every directory there for a directory named Application Data (should be in each directory with varying entries for directories). One at a time, go thru these Application Data directories and remove (delete) any directory named Apple, or Apple Computer. In other words, any directory with the word Apple in it.

Restart computer.

Download iTunes 9.1 from Apple.com. Save it to your hard drive on the desktop. Run the install program. At the end of installation, DO NOT start iTunes (yet). Click Finish to exit the installer program.

Then Copy and paste files as follows: copy all the files (not directories!)found in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support. Then, place them in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support folder.

THEN AND ONLY THEN start iTunes. If it starts with no hang ups, plug in a device (iPod, iPad, whatever) making sure iTunes recognizes your device. Then try and sync...

If all is well, your problem is solved...or at least it was for me!

My system is a Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop running WinXP Pro SP3 and Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2010, plus a few Dell programs (Dell Support Center, Dell Quickset, Dell Webcam Manager).

NOTE: If you have a Dell Laptop that has Dell PC Tuneup on it, this program will conflict with iTunes 9.1 and crash your system.

Good Luck!!

I too am having the same problems. I'm confused as to why Apple would say there would be no response. This isn't a concern?

howdy LBilowus,

if you are inquiring about my "no response" comment from apple, it was in reference to their feedback link. it does NOT mean they won't do anything - only that they will (pro'ly) not respond to that specific post on that specific page.
