Shipping - no delivery on April 3?

My understanding for pre-orders was that the iPad would be delivered on April 3. I have my shipping confirmation which shows that the device was picked up by FedEx on April 2, is now in Oakland at their facility (Apr. 3 am), and that delivery is April 6. Was anyone else under the impression that the devices were to be delivered on April 3?

I am wondering how bad this problem is. My iPad was scheduled to be delivered today, but when I called UPS to confirm it was in-transit to my house, I was told that my iPad was scheduled for delivery on Monday, April 5.

I called Apple and was re-assured that I my iPad was scheduled for delivery on April 3 and that I should be receiving it today, despite the news from UPS. My area is available for Saturday delivery and if it wasn't, the representative at Apple said I would have received an e-mail informing me of the delivery date change.

This disparity of information between the two companies is concerning and definitely upsetting. Is anyone having this problem in Tucson, AZ or anywhere else? Would love to read about it.

I called UPS and requested to pick up the item as soon as the iPad has reached the UPS facility. We will see if they allow it.

Mine had a big orange Saturday Delivery sticker on it. Got here a little after 10 am.

When I pre-ordered, the site said that Saturday delivery was not available in all areas, and it would be Monday if that were the case, so I was a little worried I might not in a UPS Saturday delivery area. Turns out I am.

good luck everyone - it sure is a great device.

Good luck to all that are still awaiting/waiting. I too was a bit upset when the status was not showing any out for delivery status, on arrival scan this morning. I called both local and international UPS and was told it was showing a delivery for Monday. I called the Apple Store number and was disappointed to find out all the person had was an obviously canned response.

I was slumped on my couch and then there was a knocking on the door. It had arrived. So these special Apple shipments must be completely out of the normal chain/system for at least UPS. Sigh. Happy though.

Hope every one else does get pleasantly surprised, without the intermediate aggravation 😉

I had an interesting conversation awhile back with an Apple VP (after my custom-built Macbook Pro was stolen from the local FedEx facility prior to delivery), who told me that Apple uses various delivery services for different reasons, and the service you'll get depends on how that service performs in your general region of the US. Where I live, UPS is far more reliable than FedEx for weekend deliveries and delivery during bad weather and other crises, but Apple tends to send things out via FedEx. The veep said that in other parts of the country UPS was standard.

I was rather surprised to note that my keyboard dock is coming from UPS. No word yet on which carrier will deliver my 3G iPad... Or when it will be shipping...
