Backing up during sync taking extremely long time

i unboxed my iPad, activated, then downloaded some apps straight on the device. went back to sync about 3 hours ago and its about 75% done with the "Backing up" stage in iTunes. its definitely moving, just ever so slowly. reminds me of the slow backups in iPhone OS 2.0
anyone else seeing this?

After 7.5 hours I gave up trying to backup and am now trying the reboot everything and try a new cable option - although so far it doesn't seem to make any difference - checking processes, looks like I am transferring about 1kb every 3 seconds. My math says that will take almost a week to complete at that rate!

I had no trouble backing up my ipad before I upgraded to itunes 9.2 although this may be a coincidence.

I am tearing my hair out here - battery life will not last through a full backup at this rate - that is, assuming that it ever actually finishes doing anything.

I only have around 9Gb of stuff on here - most of which is music and is on my PC anyway.

All I can find on the net are literally hundreds of people with the same problem so I really think that Apple need to be looking at this as a matter of urgency. In the meantime, I can only abandon backups and keep my fingers crossed that nothing happens to the ipad!

If anyone can add anything that they think will help....I'm open to any fresh ideas!

Hi there. I wanted raise my hand here as I also have the same issue. I have a 16GB wifi iPad with Keynote, Pages, Numbers, Good Reader, Dropbox, Box.net, among others installed. I mention this as I continue to hear that the long backup time is due to various apps and its associated content. I have 3 or so presentations on Keynote that are larger than 5MB. That said, I was wondering, as this post is still listed as unanswered, whether there has been any answers as of yet; or official answers from Apple? Thanks!

I have had this problem for a while. I went to the Apple Store and they handed me a piece of paper that suggested I remove ALL Apple programs from my computer, including Bonjour, etc. I did remove all of it but it turned out resetting my iPad was the only solution. I am now on a 8+ hour back up. I can't believe this is taking so long. This is not a function of my computer--it's the software or the iPad itself. My iTouch never took this kind of time.
