External Display Goes Black and Flickers with Macbook

Hi,

I had been using my Macbook with a Samsung SyncMaster 2243LNX display in clamshell mode and the Samsung monitor set to 1680 x 1050 without any problems.

This morning I updated the Mac OS x with the latest update (pretty large one, like 450 MB). After finishing installing the update, my external display quit working. I turn on the computer, let it boot, close the lid and let it go into clamshell mode. Then, the display tries to "come alive" and flickers for about half a second before going dark. It does this every 10 or so seconds. The syncmaster resolution is set to 1680 x 1050. If I lower the resolution to 1280 x 800 it works but the external monitor does not display it optimally.

It seems the computer is trying to "send the signal" to the monitor but the monitor will not "activate", it flickers and goes black.

Anyone with this same issue? It seems it stopped working after installing the OS X update.

Thanks.
