Wifi reception seems weak with slow downloads.
Getting one bar while my MBP getting a strong signal.
I have an airport extreme base station (latest generation, firmware up to date).
Anyone else having wifi issues?
20" imac intel core duo, 2GB,,
Mac OS X (10.6.1),
17" MBP 2.66, iPhone 3Gs iPad wifi
I have rebooted the ipad 3 times, doesnt help. My Macbook is running on the same wifi network just fine. Not spending $500 on something I cant even use. Its going back tomorrow.
When I get 3 bars, no problem (down 17).
But, signal keeps dropping down to 1 bar (when that happens, down 3).
Meanwhile, my iPhone 3GS, MBP, same location stay at full strength.
Huge differences as I move to different areas of the house. None of our other wireless devices seem to have this problem. I may get an extender today - maybe that would help????
WiFi signal fluctuates. This does not happen with my 3 other Macs or iPodTouch. For an N device using my N router, the internet speed is not very fast.
Hopefully it's a software bug and apple fixes it with a patch after they collect all the bugs and fixes. Anyone going to apple store with this issue? Nearest apple store is over 200 miles right now. 😟
I wouldn't wait to return/exchange it (less grief to do it during the return period). It might be a hardware problem as well.
My iPad only sees the Airport Extreme in 802.11n/5.4ghz mode when I'm next to the base station. My MacBook has a signal in another room without any problems.
I have no issues what so ever! However, I have tested in various modes with varying degrees of results.
(For those of you tech savvy enough and use it mainly around the home, I found the fastest AND most secure method-not only for mobile devices but all computing devices in general-to be MAC Address filtering, again providing you have the patience to enter each of you devices MAC addresses into the "allowed list" database on your respective routers)
WPA = Slowest/most unreliable/connection needs to be reset
WEP = Stable but (obviously) slower
MAC Filtering = Fast, no issues, but not the most user friendly either for the average user either
As far as getting an extender, thats tough to say.... it MAY help, but it also may only add more frustration for you as you find you might get the same results.
I have Verizon FIoS, with their motorola Router, the Fiber box as well as the wireless router all reside in the basement, and as far up as the attic (4th floor) I get Very Strong reception and a clear and fast connection (again it should be noted I use MAC Address filtering as the ONLY means of securing wireless)
That said, I am pretty certain WPA algorithm is suspect and will probably be addressed in a future patch. Also, whoever is using public unsecured WiFi hotspots, would most likely not see this issue, only on closed systems would be my guess
Restoring to factory settings did not help. I am going back to bestbuy and returning mine for a new one. Feels bad. Excellent product otherwise. Apple support guys were very patient.
