Wifi reception seems weak with slow downloads.
Getting one bar while my MBP getting a strong signal.

I'm using WPA over wireless N with 16mbps download on a 64GB iPad. My iPhone can't get anywhere near that speed. Upload is about the same between the devices. My router is an Airport Extreme base station.

As for using MAC filtering you do not have a secure network. You have a router that will ignore devices not on your list. All your wireless messages are fully out in the open (not encrypted) with any nearby device able to receive and read. There is no ultimate impenetrable wireless protocol, but what you're doing is like placing your credit card fully visible in a clear plexiglass box bolted to the ground in the center of a mall. Sure no one can easily take your card but everyone can see it and write down the numbers for their next online purchase.

Here is my network setup. Airport extreme base station running in 5ghz N mode only. I have a separatenlinksys wap running in 2.4ghz wireless G.

The iPad running on the N network gets mid to low 5k Kbps down and 1.6k Kbps up
The iPhone on the G network gets mid 5k to low 6k Kbps down and 1.7k kbps up

I have noticed that the wireless signal on the iPad does seem to fluctuate quite a bit but I never get a dropped connection.

The update to the OS 3.1.3 made the WIFI connection to several devices unstable. I was finally told by an Apple Manager to buy a new Router. The connection seemed to vary depending on location. I told them this would be a problem on their new iPad because it relies heavily on the WIFI signal (just like an iTouch does). I thought they would have fixed it but it appears they are just going to let it happen to some iPad owners also.

Dr. JB and others with this problem, please post more detailed information "airport extreme base station/latest generation, firmware up to date" doesn't always cut it. Specifically stating what model, what version of firmware, etc. is often needed to sort out the problem. Also be as specific as you can about exactly what is or is not working, what you have already done to troubleshoot/resolve and how you set up the wifi network and joined the network with your iPad.

ARBS: model MC340LL/A
Firmware vers: 7.5.1
Airport utility vers: 5.5.1

Router connected to cable modem (comcast)
WPA2

Joined network with iPad by selecting and entering my password.
In my case, iPad connects with 3 bars and then fluctuates down (download speed drops dramatically) and up.
Have watched while my signal strength drops on iPad but my iPhone, iPod touch, MB, MBP do not change at all.

Have shut off and restarted the modem, and disconnected and reconnected the iPad to my network without resolution of the signal declines.

Happy to provide any other information that might help.
Thanks,

I don't believe iPad WiFi is going to be any different than iPod touch/iPhone WiFi so here are the recommended fixes:

1. Reboot your router (just unplug it from the power)
2. Reset your network connections and then log back into your network by tapping Settings > WiFi > Other and re-entering your network name, security, and password.
