Can't move deleted messages to trash? Imap

I was having the same problem and no suggestions worked! But... I figured it out! At least in my case, the issue was using the Sent/Draft/Trash folders on the iPhone! In the advanced folder of your mail set up you can choose the location of the folder to use. It puts it as default to using the folders on the iPhone. If you click in the button for Drafts sent or trash you want to switch them to the corresponding folders ON THE SERVER not the iPhone. Now it works no problem! Hopefully that will work for you :)

Go into the advanced settings for the email account, and change the IMAP Path Prefix from / to INBOX.

It is of course possible that I needed to make both of these changes. This email account is through a private hosting outfit, not gmail or exchange or other standard.
