Deleting photos from iPad

How do you delete photo from the iPad? There's no trash can like the iPhone.

iMac 2009 24 in., 3.06 GHz, 4g RAM, 1 Tb HD, Mac OS X (10.5.6), MB Alum 2.4gHz, 4g Ram, iPod 160G, iPhone 3GS 32G, Nano 8G, iTouch 32G

I just got off the Phone with Applecare.
First delete all the photos. Plug the iPad into your computer, open iTunes, choose iPad under devices, choose Photos tab, UN CHECK sync photos, apply. This deletes all the photos.
Then make an album in iPhoto of what you want on your iPad.
Then CHECK sync photos, selected albums, check just the new one you created for iPad, apply and sync.

It's counter-intuitive because the default syncs everything and even duplicates photos if you do it again. The red delete button? Still don't know what that does.

Hi,
Actually, there is a trashcan, you just have to get to it! All you have to do to delete photos from iPad is click on the photo icon, then click on the photo you don't want...this will make it big. Then, in the upper right hand corner, you will see a trashcan. Click on that. Then a red bar will come down with the word, "delete?" then all you have to do is click on that red bar...and presto! that pic is gone!

On my iPad this only works in the manner described by MissyZann for photos crested on the iPad or imported onto the iPad from the Camera Connector kit.

It does no work for photos that were synched onto the iPad from iTunes.

For photos brought down via sync I can get a delete button on the top bar if I tap the box with the arrow, but selecting a photo or photos does not enable the delete button. The Delete button should update itself with the number of photos selected and when you tap the delete button it will ask if you want to delete. It does not of this for synced photo, but does work like this for locally imported created photos.

It clearly distinguishes between synched photos and all others.

A bug or "Works as Designed" ??

Right now the only photos I have on my iPad are synced from iTunes.
If I have have "Photos" highlighted at the top of the Photos app (meaning all photos on the iPad regardless of how they got there are shown) and I touch the folder/arrow symbol in the upper right corner (next to Slideshow), I am given the option of selecting the photos I want deleted and pushing the red Delete button. (Not sure what will happen when I resync the iPad since this does not delete the photos from iTunes.)
But if I go into Albums (now the only album I have is Photo Library - where the synced photos are stored), and I touch the folder/arrow icon, there is no option to delete. I think this is what is confusing people.
Photos that I saved from web/emails were put into a different folder as were photos that I loaded using the camera connection kit. In those cases I was able to delete individual photos either when in Photos (showing everything) or in the individual albums.

It's a bit more complicated. In reality the only photos you can delete on the iPad - at least based on a series of tests I've made - are those that have been imported via the Camera Connection Kit or are created on the iPAD (screen shots are an example).

It is true that when in the "photos" view if you tap the little box with an arrow you will get a delete option, but if you try and actually select a photo for deletion, you will find that photos synched onto the iPad from iTunes cannot be selected for deletion only one imported or created locally can be selected.

I suspect Steve is correct. As far as the delete button is concerned I think what that does is delete your choices to email and copy perhaps? Nothing to do with deleting the photo. As least that's as far as I can figure. In actuality after selecting pics and I click the delete button I cant see where it is doing anything at all. Period.

I think that having to delete pics from the sync folder (as inconvenient as it is) on your computer makes sense. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. If not deleted from the sync folder they will reappear every time you re sync your iPad, no?
