Deleting photos from iPad

Why does apple continue to make things so hard. In their desire to control the media market, they want to force us to use iTunes to do everything. I just want to be able to drag media to my phone to get it on and go to the app to delete it when I am done. 😟

What works for me (deleting current contents of iPad's Photos app) is to select Photos from the iTunes when the iPad device is selected; select 'sync selected folders'; * select no folders to sync *; click apply. iTunes will say 'deleting photos' (or something like that). When it's completed, the iPad Photos app will only have the things that iTunes doesn't 'know' about (e.g. Saved photos).

Now you can start again and transfer any folders you do really want on your iPad by selecting them in iTunes and syncing again.

Was there ever a legitimate answer to this question? I'm having the same issues described in the email thread on the discussion. When I tap a single photo to delete and make it larger, then tap the box to the right of slideshow, the only options are:

Email photo
Assign to Contact
Use as Wallpaper
Copy Photo

I get no trashcan icons on my iPad while in the Photos location.

As has been said, if you get your pictures onto your Ipad thru Itunes you cannot delete using your Ipad so if you want control, don't add pics this way!

There is a delete button but it is hidden and you can only use it if you added pictures in the photos album by a method other than iTunes sync. (I use the Bump App on both my iPad and iPhone to transfer pics from my iPhone). This is how you delete them. Highlight the word "Photo" in the middle of that bar at the top of the screen, then touch the arrow at the top right on the same bar, a red delete button will appear at the top left but you can't use it until you select at least one pic (along with copy, mail, & print buttons) then you can control deletion that way.

Saved Photos Album:
Just select the photo, it will enlarge and a trash can will appear at the top right

I THINK I HAVE THE ANSWER. PLUG IN IPAD TO YOUR COMPUTER THAT THE PHOTOS ARE ON. NEXT,OPEN ITUNES ON COMPUTER. LOOK NEAR THE TOP OF THE PAGE AND CLICK ON PHOTOS. THIS SHOULD BRING UP YOUR PHOTO FOLDERS WHICH IS NOW IN ITUNES. IN THAT FOLDER UNCHECK ANY FOLDER THAT YOU DID NOT WANT ON THE IPAD. LOOK NEAR THE TOP OF THE PAGE AND CHECK SYNC PHOTOS FROM (IN THE GRAY BOX NEXT TO THAT SCROLL TO PICTURES). AFTER YOU HAVE UNCHECKED THE FOLDERS YOU DON'T WANT, THEN SYNC YOUR IPAD. THIS WIIL REMOVE THE PHOTOS FROM THE IPAD.

Seriously. I'm a photographer and I use the iPad to review batches of photos on site by importing them directly into the iPad. It's great. Only now that I need to recover hard drive space and find I'm only able to delete said imports is by individually clicking through them and deleting?! C'mon that's got to be a flipp'n joke. The best work around that I've found is to reimport the imported photos back through iPhoto, which isn't my normal workflow and creates an unneeded step, and choose the delete after importing option. What a joke. I guess the mistake is mine for trusting Apple to provide user friendly interfaces which this clearly isn't. Very disappointing. Does anyone know if there are any third party apps that are allowed to manage photos on and off the internal hard disk? Doubtful.

This is quite bizarre. Suppose you go on a family vacation w/ your ipad and realize that although you want to showcase your ipad, you suddenly know there's some pics that are not ready for prime time; or substitute work presentation. If you don't have your desktop Itunes computer w/ you you're out of luck???

I have read responses on deleting photos and still don't understand how to delete. Nothing happens when I mark the photos on the iPad and tap the delete button. I have now deleted the photos from my computer so if I could erase all my photos I could resync and get only the photos I want. How can I erase all my photos from the iPad or is there any other way to get rid of unwanted photos?

I never knew Apple is this stupid that to perform a simple function like 'delete' you need a bloody marathon of steps and it'll still leave you frustrated.

Who in their right mind decided that 'delete' wasn't required for photos????

When my stars were wrong I synced up a new iPad with one of the laptops in my home. So it has bunch of photos. Now i want to delete a photo from the iPad and i simply can't.

I read all the suggestions on this discussion forum and i still don't think I can delete this pic.

-- this pic was 'synced' to the iPad -- which means i simply don't get the option to delete this photo.

-- I don't have the same laptop available at the moment. I've downloaded iTunes on another laptop and tried opening up iTunes to find that pic but i can't...

It asks me stupid questions like-- do you want to erase the whole data on this iPad and sync with this new iTunes library-- **** NO...

I just want a way to delete a photo on my iPad...

Is there anyway to delete this photo??

Alas, I am realizing that this device is just a glorified toy, and definitely NOT a tiny portable computer.

Only someone very misinformed would have thought that it was a computer. Apple has never presented it as such. Your choice was of your own doing, so popping in here to sling an arrow just reflects poorly on you.
