I was looking for the solution and noticed Artsyness already gave the solution (posted 16/01/2011). This url has the same solution and with pictures:
In a nutshell!! edsolana has it perfectly. I only got the ipad yesterday & came across this problem. It shouldn't be like this at all & Apple need to sort it. It's almost too simple to even be a problem!
Hi, I tried your suggestion, but when I tap the top right box with arrow, the only options are: email, copy, or print (on my iPad 1). Any more suggestions?
Sorry for the bother, but I also do not have a 'saved photos' option on my iPad.
This is going to sound really pathetic, but everything works up to hitting the delete button and having nothing happen. Any suggestions? (sigh)
You cannot delete photos that were sync'd from your computer.
Saved Photos will show up for photos saved directly on the iPad, such as from a mail attachment or saved from a web site or a screenshot or the camrera on the iPad 2.
Imported photos are imported from a camera using the Camera Connection Kit.
I've also faced the same problem of removing synced photos into my iPad. Then I tried this method (pls refer to below) and my problem is solved :
First of all, create a folder and place all the images/photos that you want to copy into your iPad. For example, I've created a folder called iPad Pics, located in D: drive. I've enabled the "Sync Photos from" [iPad Pics] option and sync it with my device.
When I want to delete/remove whatever images or folders, I just go to D: drive > iPad Pics folder and remove those images/folder.
Sync your device, and voila~! You've successfully remove those images/folders. Hope this helps 🙂
Creating another folder and duplicating 1,000 photos just to remove a few is idiotic. Why is there a "delete" button at all? Why can't Apple make the delete button work? Where is Drew hiding?
Hey Apple. My camera software dumps all the photos into a folder based on the date. Sometimes there are 10 different pictures of the same thing, and I only want one on my iPad. Can't you please make the iPad photo app amazingly great? Right now it is not.

Hi Chris, hope the following helps. I'm paying it forward from Nathan. I couldn't delete photos on my iPad (I don't have the latest version). Nathan told me to sync the photos physically through iTunes and choose the option to sync no events (or none) (my iPad is updating as I write; otherwise I could give you the specific terms). I deslected all items on my MacBook Pro and when I performed the sync all photos were removed from my iPad. I then created an album on my MacBook iPhoto application entitled iPad Photos, and selected about 100 photos from the thousands on my computer and dragged them into that album. Now when I sync new photos to my iPad, I do it manually and drag the photos from my computer that I want in this album and select only this album (iPad)to sync and make sure that all others are deselected. Also, I set my preferences to sync manually rather than having it happen automatically when I open iTunes. This has been somewhat labor/time intensive but I now know how to prevent 2200+ and counting photos from appearing on my iPad. It's not because I lack the space; it's because I can now find the photos I want to have with me. Best wishes, Sue
This is ridiculous! I find it hard to believe - with all the geniuses at Apple - that this not-so-small problem slipped thru. In fact, the cynic in me thinks they "let" it get by, with the intent of being the 'heros' & marketing it as a 'fix' next product round.
It is not ridiculous. This is by design and intention which has been the same since iOS 1.0 with the original iPhone nearly 4 years ago.
This process is based on iPhoto with a Mac or with a similar supported photo management app with a peecee where most people already have photo events and albums for the photos on their computer they want transferred to their iPad such as is available with iPhoto on a Mac. When transferring photos with iPhoto, you can choose select events and/or albums and faces to be transferred. To remove photos from the iPad, deselect the Event or Album under the Photos tab followed by a sync. To remove select photos, you must remove the select photos from the selected event of album in iPhoto followed by a sync.
CAN NOT be done!!!!! ridicolous spend almost $800 and they cant make a simple option for deleting photos u dont want.. u have to go through the whole process of syncing again!!!
