Seems very silly that a photo added via iTunes cannot be deleted on the iPad. I have been trying to figure this out for 20 mins, it is poor UX. I'm on holiday now without my desktop for 2 weeks so stuck with a bunch of images i synced while just playing around with iTunes. Please fix soon Apple.
What on earth is the mad rush or dire need to delete photos from your iPad that were transferred from your computer? Stuck with photos you are not forced to look at? How about any 3rd party apps you rarely if ever use? How about any videos - movies or tv shows that were transferred from your iTunes library that you have already watched? Those can be deleted which take up much more storage space than photos.
You are not addressing Apple here. It has been the same with iPods since transferring photos from your computer to a compatible iPod was supported and the same for the last 4 & 1/2 years with iOS devices since the iPhone was released. Not saying this won't change at some point, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
Don't care if it's how it has always been or not the most important function, it is bad usability. Apple prides itself on simple and clean user experience, this is an oddity that they should address. Apple reads these forums so don't feel my 30 seconds to write this post was wasted.
It is an oddity to you but obviously not to Apple. This is not in place for no reason or by some oversight.
Dream on if you think every post and thread here is read by an Apple employee.
This thread is not about apps or videos, it is about the desire for a simple delete option for photos on the iPad which should exist. Some people have busy lives and take lots of pictures and do not want to have to sync to remove one photo that they want off of their iPad. That is ridiculous. Doesn't mean there is a "mad rush" to do it, I haven't seen one person say they are in a hurry, they just want to know if they can delete a photo without syncing their life away. Just because someone says "please fix Apple", it doesn't mean they actually think they are addressing Apple directly. This is a forum for people to ask questions about an apple device. If it annoys you, you are not required to read the posts. In other words, dude...chill.
The same applies to you, but another do as I say but not as I do type.
If an answer annoys you, you are not required to read the posts. In other words "dude", chill. Try to practice what you are spewing.
Actually, it does not apply to me. The title of the thread is "DELETING PHOTOS FROM IPAD". I got an iPad 2 days ago and was wondering how to delete photos without going through iTunes. That is what brought me here.....the subject. That is why I am reading the posts. Why are you reading them? Opportunities to try to make people feel foolish?
Oliverthepug had not been rude to anyone. You went way off subject and started rambling about downloading 3rd party apps, movies and tv shows. Where did this person say they had a concern with storage space? Maybe I just didn't see an earlier post. But I do not see a storage space or memory concern even mentioned by this user.
If you do not have anything to offer in a thread and do not have any questions on the subject at hand, why exactly are you here?
at last someone with a level head and common sense, christid2303.
I've watched this post for months with amusement, as everyone has gets cross and cranky with everyone else and never solving anything. It's been thoroughly entertaining and I've had such a fun time reading all the posts! I've had some great laughs!
I also had a new ipad and wondered the basic question which is how to delete from ipad, photos imported through my computer. You can't.
If apple don't know there is discontent then they are in lala land. They obviously aren't interested at this time.
For the rest of you, my sympathy. I'm one of you, but will be patient and hope it comes about eventually.
and yes... poor oliverthepug.
by the way, just in case you don't know about a similar thing with your iphones, you can now delete individual calls from your call list which you couldn't do before. But first udate your phone to 5.
I restored my iPad2 from my iPad backup and following all the recomendations I am not able to delete any photos. When in "Photos" i select a hand full and although the "Delete" button appears it is greyed out... Any other sugestions?
Wow - how embarrassing for other Texans. Your a real example of southern hospitality!
Yeah, the Texan is a real piece of work, huh? Comes to a help forum to criticize people for asking for help. Nice guy.
There is an answer in this thread. I was able to delete photos sync from my Mac Mini by creating an empty folder in my pictures diretory. The next tint I synced I choose to sync only to that empty folder. Voila! The whole boatload of pics from th earlier sync were replaced with nothing. I now keep a folder of the photos I want on my iPad and sync only to it.
Thanks for the help and it does work...
Too bad you can not just delete them from the iPad its self.
Cheers!
iPhoto 11, iPad 2, and iOS5 used together will give you the option to delete photos from your iPad2 after importing into iPhoto 11.
This might also be tied into OS X Lion
Wouldn't it be nice to get help from everyone on these threads.
I hope this works for you!
"iPhoto 11, iPad 2, and iOS5 used together will give you the option to delete photos from your iPad2 after importing into iPhoto 11."
But you still cannot delete them directly on the iPad, as what this thread is all about.
