iPad freezing when playing video.

Any time I play a video I can count on it freezing if it is html5. YouTube plays longer but if I have a video that's about 6 or 7 minutes it will freeze and playing a stored video will always freeze after about the same amount of time. In order to get out of it I have to do a hard reset! Anyone else having this problem?

My iPad has frozen twice, and both times it was using the Youtube app. Both times, I had to reset it. I've watched several other videos with Youtube, some in Safari, and some long ones in the Videos app, all without freezing.

From the comments here, it does sound like a hardware issue. I think I'll wait and see how annoying the problem gets and how the issue develops here before I decide whether to take it in for a new one.

I have same problem with my iPad. I read the posts these are all same problem like me. I brought the iPad to Apple Store last week the guy said that it is not a iPad problem at all and he made my iPad reset to factory set and I restore the iPad as new iPad which he asked. However, it is same problem everytime I play video with Air Video (he said that it might be caused by them) and Video which is built-in on iPad.

My question is "is there anybody replace a iPad and fix this problem with new iPad ?"

Apple should open this problem and let us know how to fix...

Had the same problems while watching videos (YouTube app or in Safari)

Went into my router's settings and set it to wireless G instead of mixed (with B) and just to be sure I disabled "auto" speeds and just selected the highest possible... Now the videos on YouTube stream with no hiccups.

These "wifi" problems should be solved on future updates (bugs should've been expected with new hardware) ... Personally, I think returning it seems a bit extreme ... I know some people who can't wait to get their hands on one of these ... Bugs and all...

I think some people are confusing this issue with a buffering problem. The real problem is when watching a video and having to do a hard reset because your ipad is unresponsive.. I too had this problem until I went to the Apple store and had them replace it, I now have an ipad that is free of freezing problems. It took 2 trips to the Apple store the first trip they restored it and I continued to have the same problem. If you are having this problem, HAVE YOUR IPAD REPLACED, it is a hardware issue. I have watched countless videos on my new ipad and have not had one single freeze up.

Hi, guys today I finally replace the iPad at apple store. It was my second visit. The new one DOES NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEM. I think that some of iPad have this issue. I had not watched any movie with freezing since I bought old one. Today It was my first time to finish the movie without the problem....
You guys better to go the apple store and replace yours. This is only way to solve the problem. Good Luck

Ok I have add info to my issue, it is not only happening with streaming videos(netflix, air video), it is also happening with local video files also, I have Pixar's Up on my Ipad as an mp4 file and it froze up right around the hour mark which the Ipad was completely unresponsive and required the power-home hard reset to get the Ipad working. I have a ticket opened with apple that I put online and going to call them once I get a chance.

To everyone who still has this problem, don't wait for bug fix or restore firmware, It's not software issue or combination of apps that you have installed. It's a hardware defect for sure. I had the same problem too with any kind of streaming video (YouTube, ABC, Netflix, Air Video, etc..) at first a genius tried to solve the problem by restore the firmware but it still had the same problems, but after I got my iPad replaced with a new one,, the problem solved! no more freeze. so, to every out there just go to your apple store and have it replaced with a new one.

I had my iPad replaced today and I've been testing it out for the past several hours switching off from the Netflix app to YouTube played thru Safari. So far so good...

It's definitely a hardware issue even if the Apple Genius Tech dude didn't outright admit it to me but the issue has been verified.

I agree with 'iamjona'. Don't wait and just 'go' to the Apple store and get it replaced if you have this issue.

I was having a problem with my original 64GB ipad freezing playing any videos, I went to the apple store(this was the suggestion from second level apple phone support)and had an appointment with the genius bar. They asked me a few questions and then replaced my ipad for a new one. The new one doesn't have any of the freezing issues so far, I watched a full video without any freezing(which I was not able to accomplish on my original Ipad) and right now watching my second video just to make sure it is resolved. I am thinking apple must have had a bad batch of Ipads and that is the reason there has been this many posts regarding this issue. I would suggest contacting apple if you are experiencing these issues and getting a appointment to swap out your ipad. Hope this helps everyone.
