Wifi Problem- please look here

In an effort to help narrow down these problems I ask that you kindly fill out these questions even if you do not have Wifi problems

Brand of Router:
Does it transmit a Wireless G or N signal or both?
Does your iPod Touch/iPhone/Macbook/PC etc connect fine to your router?
Do you have a password on your Wifi connection?
If so, what type of encryption do you use? (WPA/WEP etc)
If you disable the password does it fix the issue?
If so, do you still lose the wifi (in the top left) but then it reconnects?

Thank you all, I am hoping strongly this is a software issue and not a hardware one!

Update:

Tried to connect to two different networks at work and no luck. Behavior is different, but still unable to access the internet. One guest network, I get "Unable to join the network "XXXXX"" (I don't know how this network is configured) and the other corporate WPA2 Enterprise authenticated network results in the same. My iPhone uses the corporate network and works alongside my non-working iPad.

I'm visiting the Apple store after work to see what they have to say.

To Be honest, I'm not sure what difference it makes regarding several of the questions relating to what is the brand, model, type, etc.. These units cost severa hundreds of dollars and Apple knows the protocols etc.. To have this many people with WiFi Issues, clearly points to manufacturing defect.
Yes I'm sure there are some who may have hardware problems, but if someone lays down 6-800 bucks for one of these, it's safe to say that 99% of those who do, are aware of the functionalities these iPads have/use.
For me, I took mine on the road, down a residential street.
I live in a high FiOS area, so there are several signals to pick from assuming they are not secured (which most are now). The point is, I would get several 'choices' and them shortly thereafter, the signals are "GONE", whilst standing still in the same location. Clearly there is an issue with the Radio in the iPad. Possibly Apple, in order to eek out as much battery life as possible has the adapter settings such that it either goes into low-power state, or some other power saving scheme. This was the problem with several Vista-based computers when they first came out (notebooks). The solution was to turn off the power-saving settings for the wifi radio.
I suspect this is the problem with the iPad as well. Since, on occasion I get a fantastic signal, I can only assume the radio is good.
I do know that I will be taking mine back if the solution is not displayed soon on Apple's site(s)

Update #2:

Booked a session with a Palo Alto genius and the iPad was unable to connect to the internal store network. So, he swapped it out and this one worked in the store and.... works at home. My original device is being sent to someone at Apple to take a look. I hope it results in some useful learnings.

To summarize, my iPad was never able to connect to any network, so it's possible this unit had a hardware fault not caught through QC.

Many of the threads I have seen today relating to wi-fi relate to the device reporting intermittent signal strength issues through the number of bars indicator. In the short few minutes I've had the new unit at home, I have seen this behavior. But for now, I'm happy to be able to connect.

Good luck to anyone else working through problems.

Brand of Router: D-Link DIR-655
Does it transmit a Wireless G or N signal or both? Both
Does your iPod Touch/iPhone/Macbook/PC etc connect fine to your router? Macbook Pro drop connection
Do you have a password on your Wifi connection? Yes
If so, what type of encryption do you use? (WPA/WEP etc) WPA2
If you disable the password does it fix the issue? No
If so, do you still lose the wifi (in the top left) but then it reconnects? Yes

Switched to older D-Link DWL-2000AP wireless router with 802.11G and WEP security and it works fine.

Also, went to my in-laws and connected my iPad to their open wireless network (not sure of model). I connected and remained connected, but signal strength fluctuated between full strength to one bar.

Linksys wireless G model WRT54G
ITOUCH, IPHONE, IPAD: NO PROBLEM maintining a connection within 2 story home or outside.
Speedtest.net app with IPAD however, shows 6 meg/sec up/down load.
I would like to upgrade my router if it will result in faster speeds. Currently using Wyse pocketcloud to remote into my PC is slow like an old dial-up line.

Not sure of my setup since I'm using a public network in my apartment building, but I do know that my iPad has problems. MacBookPro and 2 different iPhones work fine; the iPad gets a great signal for about 20 minutes, then disconnects from the network. It takes a few minutes to find the network again, then works for another 20 minutes before it disconnects. This has been happening almost like clockwork, and I haven't been moving the device an inch (closer or further from a router). I will be returning the iPad for a full refund if this isn't resolved by this weekend.

Brand of Router: MI424WR (verizon FIOS supplied)
Does it transmit a Wireless G or N signal or both? G only
Does your iPod Touch/iPhone/Macbook/PC etc connect fine to your router? No, not with security turned on. With security off, no problems, but with it on I can not connect even with correct password.
Do you have a password on your Wifi connection? See above.
If so, what type of encryption do you use? (WPA/WEP etc) WEP
If you disable the password does it fix the issue? I wouldn't say that this fixes the issue since I want security turned on, but it does allow for a connection.
If so, do you still lose the wifi (in the top left) but then it reconnects?
??? I haven't seen this issue.
Thank you all, I am hoping strongly this is a software issue and not a hardware one!

Brand of Router: Linksys BEFSR41 wired router (up to date firmware)
Brand of wireless access point: Linksys WRT54GL (up to date firmware)
Does it transmit a Wireless G or N signal or both? G only
Does your iPod Touch/iPhone/Macbook/PC etc connect fine to your router? Yes
Do you have a password on your Wifi connection? Yes
If so, what type of encryption do you use? (WPA/WEP etc) WPA
If you disable the password does it fix the issue? Have not tried
If so, do you still lose the wifi (in the top left) but then it reconnects?

For what it is worth I have an HP netbook and windows PC both running linux and had problems with losing the connection and then not being able to reconnect unless I did a reboot. I solved the problem with these two by disabling sleep mode for lack of a better word in the config of the wireless adapters on each. It seemed if left idle they would go into sleep mode and only rebooting would wake them. I know it's linux and all but the same thing is going on with my ipad in that it will lose the connection and will not reconnect unless restarted, perhaps the ipad is going into some power saving mode it cannot get out of.
