Wifi Problem- please look here

In an effort to help narrow down these problems I ask that you kindly fill out these questions even if you do not have Wifi problems

Brand of Router:
Does it transmit a Wireless G or N signal or both?
Does your iPod Touch/iPhone/Macbook/PC etc connect fine to your router?
Do you have a password on your Wifi connection?
If so, what type of encryption do you use? (WPA/WEP etc)
If you disable the password does it fix the issue?
If so, do you still lose the wifi (in the top left) but then it reconnects?

Thank you all, I am hoping strongly this is a software issue and not a hardware one!

I replied with the other info earlier, this is an update. I have noticed the following consistently when my iPad comes out of sleep mode it connects long enough to refresh e:mail or load a web page. The it disconnects every time and prompts for the password. If I enter the password it then stays connected, maybe not indefinitely but certainly for a usable period.

Brand of Router: Actiontec MI424WR Fios
Does it transmit a Wireless G or N signal or both? G
Does your iPod Touch/iPhone/Macbook/PC etc connect fine to your router? MacMini, IPhone, PS3, Sony notebook, asus netbook all connect fine, strong signal.
Do you have a password on your Wifi connection? Yes
If so, what type of encryption do you use? (WPA/WEP etc) Was WEP, now WPA
If you disable the password does it fix the issue? Changed from WEP to WPA, WEP was horrible, frequent diconnects and lost password each time. WPA disconnected less and so far has always remembered password.
If so, do you still lose the wifi (in the top left) but then it reconnects? Lose signal less with WPA. WiFi is weak,switches between 1 and 2 bars, other devices show strong signal.
Currently sitting 2 feet from wireless router and still just shows 2 bars.

Does it transmit a Wireless G or N signal or both? Both
Does your iPod Touch/iPhone/Macbook/PC etc connect fine to your router? I have infrequent drops, but nothing like with the iPad. For example, I copied 40 large files to my MacBook and had one timeout; I then tried to download these to the iPad with SyncDocs and every single file timed out and failed. I've also had the iPad reprompt me several times for the security key even though it has not changed.

Do you have a password on your Wifi connection? Yes

If so, what type of encryption do you use? (WPA/WEP etc) Tried both WEP and WPA-PSK AES

If you disable the password does it fix the issue? Have not tried this

If so, do you still lose the wifi (in the top left) but then it reconnects? N/A

I spent hours fiddling with the setting trying to get it to work. Hit the reset key many times. My son-in-laws brother stops by, he works for Microsoft. Goes to the same setting I had been fiddling with. Changes my password from the 3rd one on the list that I had been using to the 1st one on the list, the one the lap tops use, and it hooked up and has worked fine since.
The DSL modem cable is hooked into the 1st position. There was no way the setting for the 3rd position would have worked as the wire wasn't plugged into it. My network setting told me as much I just didn't understand it. The iPad showed wireless but it was a router screw up, MY SCREW UP, not the iPad's or the routers.
Why did I pick the 3rd position? When I was setting things up it showed, Network settings, that the 3rd position was open. It would have helped if I had the modem plugged into it.
I assumed from the beginning that it was a modem problem as the iPad showed the wireless symbol was up and OK. If you have room for more than one modem cable try to use the password for the one the cable is plugged into.

As it was Easter I didn't have the time to run and find a wireless hot spot. That would have been my next course of action. See if it worked at a *$ or whatever.

I was having this problem - not reconnecting after sleep - but suddenly it seems to be working again.

For unrelated reasons, I had to do a reload to my iPad. I backed up the iPad, did the reload from iTunes, then restored the backup. Then I set up the iPad to work with my Cradlepoint (PHS300, set for G only). So at this point I had 2 networks set up - my Linksys WRT54G (mixed G/B) and the Cradlepoint. I turned the Cradlepoint off, so there was only the one network in range. At some point the iPad went to sleep and I woke it - and it connected up just fine. Then again this morning, connected just fine.

I don't know if it was the reload or setting up the second network or what - but it is looking to me like the problem has gone away for me.

Similar to other users, the iPad connects fine, but does not reconnect after a later wake. My MacBook Pro, and iPhone and iPhone 3g do not experience the same.

I did update the Airport Extreme software yesterday and cycled the power after.

The iPad does not forget settings, but just does not reconnect. My interim resolution is RENEW LEASE for the network. No other actions have been needed, but a permanent network fix would be helpful.

Brand of Router: Apple Airport Extreme and extended through Airport Express

Does your iPod Touch/iPhone/Macbook/PC etc connect fine to your router? MacBook Pro, 2 iPhones, no connection retention issues
Do you have a password on your Wifi connection? Yes
If so, what type of encryption do you use? (WPA/WEP etc) WPA/WPA2

Brand of Router: Time Capsule, Airport Extreme, Airport Express;

Does it transmit a Wireless G or N signal or both? Time Capsule is configured for n; Airport Express is configured for g and is wired to the time capsule, setup as a bridge and is part of a WDS network with the Airport Express. The Time Capsule acts as the router and shares the IP adrs using NAT; IP adrs assigned using DHCP;

Does your iPod Touch/iPhone/Macbook/PC etc connect fine to your router? Yes, MacBook, MacBook Pro and ATV all using n; iPhones using the g;

Do you have a password on your Wifi connection? Yes.

If so, what type of encryption do you use? (WPA/WEP etc) WPA2 Personal

If you disable the password does it fix the issue? No.

If so, do you still lose the wifi (in the top left) but then it reconnects? N/A

iPad has never been able to access the internet. Generally the IP address is set to 169.254.160.75 with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 with blank entries for router, DNS, or search domain.

Renewing iPad DHCP lease produces the same result.

Reloading iPad software produces same result;

I have tried disabling security on the n and g network. Same result.

I have tried turning off the g network. Same result.

I have confirmed that renewing a lease on the n network works correctly on the MacBook.

The g and n networks are named differently.

Time Capsule software is 7.4.2; Airport Extreme is 7.4.2; Airport Express is 6.3

I'm taking the iPad to work to see if I can connect there.

Comments welcome!

Finally got fed-up with my iPad this morning. When I had a Wi-Fi signal it was strong, however whenever I put the iPad to sleep it would loose my Wi-Fi connection. I'm really disappointed that the iPad did not perform flawlessly out of the box. I have three other Apple products and they all connect to my Wi-Fi signal without any trouble. Maybe I'll try again in a few generations.
