Wi-Fi External Hard Drive
I was wondering if an iPad would access the external wireless hard drive and the media stored on it the same way my Macbook does.

Its so frustrating... I have all this expensive apple gadgetry and the most sophisticated software... Yet i cant do even the simplest thing-- use my ipad to access my files on the hard drive attached to my airport extreme.
And after two hours of downloading apps and paying for them, searching on the net for answers that arent there...i have finallycome to the conclusion that there is no way to do this.
My mac-- which inexplicably just died, is set up to access those files. A second mac i have is able to connect and access remotely (that computer is out of commission after falling off a table)... But for some stupid reason i cant access files from my ipad! Why is there no app that just connects easy-apple style?!! Yes, i was lured into wasting money to buy the app filebrowser but that doesnt work either! Its perhaps that Airport has to be configured differently to access files from pc than a mac-- filebrowser appears to be more pc oriented. Bottom line-- since i cant access airport on a regular computer in order to change the settings-- i cant access on my ipad-- this is just stupid when the files are accessible by an apple laptop-- im so over this.
G-Technology just came out with a wireless 500GB hard drive for the iPad.

It's designed for media, so I'm not sure about file access for PDFs, Word docs, etc. The downside for the OP is that this would have to be a duplicate of the media on his current drive.
I understand your frustration. My wife and I both have iPads and an AirPort Extreme with no way to access the network hard drive. I want my wife to be able to play videos off a network drive and look at our huge photo collection. The easiest solution would probably be to just get an android tablet. *sigh*
for the most part it's not possible with ios devices you don't access the filesystem and choose a file and it picks the correct app like on a computer
with ios you start the app and it works with the local files mostly
