Connecting to WiFi via Web Login?

So after playing with my new iPad all weekend, I was looking forward to bringing it to work today to share with co-workers. The major issue I am running into is that I can't gain real access to the office wi-fi.

I'm not sure what the technical term is for it, but to connect to the Wi-Fi you're taken to a webpage where you login and then go about your business. On a laptop, after login the browser pops up a window that lets you know you're logged in and has your 'session' details. On the iPad, this screen cannot be moved past. It just sits there, no way to close it. Closing Safari then terminates the connection.

Is there a solution to this or is connecting at work via Wi-Fi pretty much not going to happen?

Update:

I got connected. Another gentleman here at work also got an iPad. Instead of entering my usual username, entering "Visitor" and the password worked. Not sure why, but after updating the login information, Safari just moved right through like it does on the iPhone. No thanks to any help from the IT people here though, who just laughed at me when I asked for help getting my iPad online.

Thanks for all the replies here. Hopefully my experience will help somewhat.

Honestly, I don't think so, you can TRY, but I seriously doubt it mainly because it seems the part where things are getting hung up for people who are trying to authenticate on a wireless lan secured by peap is in accepting the certificate BACK from the server issuing it.

To use PEAP, the client side has to accept that certificate before they can use the wireless LAN the way they want to. To do THAT, Apple would have had to implement the root certificate ability of the iPad properly, if they didn't .... sigh ..... is all I can say.

ok, I had the same concern all weekend, trying to access and enter my information through a university portal only for Safari to freeze and go nowhere.

Im sorry I don't know the specifics however, I am now connected. An alternative connection appeared today through my wifi connection

xxx

this was the original wifi connection available

xxx (802.11a)

this is now an alternative available login, allowing me complete wifi access.

My IP address is a 137.xxx however, no issues. If anything develops further Ill post here, but currently, over the last 8 hours, I have had no wifi concerns... maybe someone more technically minded may be able to interpret exactly what has happened to allow connection
