Using Safari on iPad to access Hotmail, I can read mail but I can't compose a new message or reply to a message. iPad won't let me type in the message input area, and Safari hangs. I can use Hotmail through the iPad mail client but not through the familiar Web client.
MacBook Pro,
Mac OS X (10.5.6),
2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB
Actually now I found that the iPad Mail client doesn't work for Hotmail either. It worked the first time I used it but a day later when I went back in it froze. Now I can't use the Mail client for anything, it freezes whenever I start it.
I did notice that there are 2 Hotmail clients for sale in the store so I may have to buy one of those. It just seems like I shouldn't have to buy a client to use a free internet-enabled service.
Some websites open fine on the iPhone/iPod touch but struggle on the iPad as webmasters have yet to add iPad's user-agent string detection to their websites and point the user to "iPad friendly" versions of their content (meaning HTML5 instead of Flash, no ActiveX, etc).
I have the same issue with Hotmail on Safari. What I did is bookmark the mobile version of Hotmail (like what you get on the iPhone) which works perfectly, though it is a sucky substitute.
I had the same issue but then set up my Hotmail account through the Mail app and it sends fine from there.
Separately when using Hotmail through the Mail app deleting emails does not delete them from the Hotmail account (they just reload the next time you log on) does anyone know how to delete emails?
When accessing a Hotmail account with the iPhone's Mail client, the account is accessed as a POP account.
With the iPhone's Mail client, there is no option to remove messages from the server when downloaded with a POP account as is available with an email client on your computer. Email account mailboxes are not synchronized with the server as is supported with an IMAP account. Deleting a message in the account's Inbox mailbox with a POP account does not delete the message at the incoming mail server. The message remains at the server.
After any new messages received at the server are downloaded by the iPhone's Mail client, the same messages should not be downloaded again even after being deleted from the account's Inbox mailbox with the iPhone's Mail client.
I too have the same problem replying to a hotmail email while in safari, but the mail icon setup works fine. my preference is to access from safari rather than mail client. i also had the same problem with my godaddy mail account when accessing via the web. safari would hang when i replied to an email. godaddy told me to disable 'Use Pop-up Compose' and disable 'Use HTML Compose' in my email settings. Once I did this, I had no problems replying to emails on my godaddy account while accessing through safari. question is, how do you do this with hotmail? there doesnt appear to be any way you can do that in hotmail and there is no ability to open a ticket with hotmail folks. any suggestions?
DITTO Here - and Safari crashes when trying (without success) to reply or forward mail from Hotmail.
Do not want to use mail app.
Hotmail works fine from Safari on my iMac, MacBook, & iPhone.
Why not on the iPad?
If hotmail won't work, it detracts seriously from the value of the iPad.
From what I'm reading, apple seems to be saying it's a hotmail problem.
I can't accept that - hotmail was there first, and the iPad should be compatible with major stuff that's out there. Hotmail has so many users.
Well I can tell you Hotmail works OK on Safari in OS X on my Mac Mini. I am guessing Safari is missing something on the iPad. I cannot say for sure but I think maybe Hotmail uses some Silverlight stuff now. They have a plugIn for OS X but I do not think it works on iPhone software. So that means iPad too I guess?
