I am using the iPad to access the wiki, and it doesn't the iPad browser doesn't appear to give editing capability for wiki entries - - just viewing. This is the same as the iPhone.
What gives? Why limit the functionality? This makes zero sense.
Just dropping in to note that the bug is still present as of today (18/11/2010). Did anyone submit it as a bug???? Can it be fixed???? Is this "feature" really a designed-in not alterable part of the system. Didn't Apple want people to use the iPad/iPod/iPhone???
I agree with ahoutzerkk: "This should be a matter of embarrassment to Apple...It's something that just has to be fixed because it makes a person look so stupid."
The employees at the firm who hired me, all have iPhones and were looking for something to make it easier to collaborate on cases remotely. I told them the Apple Wiki might be a great solution! Now, I am going to have to tell them that the Apple Wiki is not editable on the iPhone or iPad...how do I not look like an idiot?
I find a solution to edit wikis & blogs on iPad : if you use iCab browser on iPad with ID Navigator : Firefox Mac for exemple, you can see the page like on your Mac. So you CAN create new articles from your iPad.
I just managed to enable the Add/Edit/Delete toolbar!
In the finder go to the folder /usr/share/collaboration/javascript/
Use menu option 'Go To Folder...' in Finder, as the folder is normally hidden (so you can't just browse over there...)
Edit the file compressed_wiki.js with an editor such as TextWrangler (one that can read/write as sudo)
Search for 'isiPad' (without quotes) and you should see something like:
{id:'toolbars',className:'toolbars',style:(SafariFixes.isiPad?'visibility:false' :'')}
Change 'visibility:false' to true and everything should work fine! (tested on 10.6.6 only!)
I made the changes to the javascript file and can now post on the Apple Wiki from my iPad. It seams like I have to hold my finger down a split second longer in order to initiate a "click" I do on other sites. And in order to enter text, I have to switch to the html entry mode.
Also, in my case the script read: visibility:hidden':''
blog editing would certainly be nice and it seems like a execution failure by apple that it is not currently possible.
another suggestion, either for apple or for an enterprising app developer: build a simple IOS app on the phone that creates a blog entry with some optional text, one or more photos, and optional keywords. this seems like it should be easy to do. i believe it could be done using the metaweblog api, which the docs say that apple's blog/wiki server supports.
there are third-party services that provide this kind of thing, aka "microblogging", but it seems kind of dumb that i can't use one great apple product like an iphone or an ipad to create a blog entry on apple's own server os. this is the kind of thing that apple's supposed to be good at.
Wikid Blogs is a native iPhone/iPad app, designed from scratch to work with Mac OSX Wiki Server 2, that fully supports creating and deleting posts, editing as HTML, uploading images, adding and deleting comments and tags and a few more niceties besides. There is also a free version called Wikid Blogs Lite which has some restrictions but does support HTML edit.
For Wiki pages I have also written an application called Wikid Wikis. It supports page creation, deletion and editing along with video and image capture and upload as well as comment and tag management. Right now it is going through the Apple review process but fingers crossed it will be available soon! There is also a free version that should be available at the same time called appropriately enough Wikid Wikis Lite that loses the media managment and create and delete functionality but retains the ability to edit.
