iPad clock

Ive noticed that the clock never keeps good time. If I wake it it will be a few minutes behind from my iPhone. I have never seen it slower then 6 min. Has anyone else seen this issue?

I had this problem back in April. It didn't crop up for almost a week; I suspect that I turned on a service that is linked to the issue. I have not suffered lost time since turning off Notifications & Location Services (not a big issue with a WiFi iPad).

To make these changes launch the Settings app & turn off Notifications in the top level settings and Location Services listed under General.

Post here if this works for you (or doesn't).

This is 100% reproducible for me. In fact, I put my iPad to sleep 5 minutes ago, and when I woke it up that time was the same as when I put it to sleep. When I got home from work tonight, the time was set to 9:03AM which is when I stopped using it this morning. I don't think its related to a slow drifting over time, that seems to be an unrelated problem.

Pluging in the USB cable and then unplugging seems to temporarily fix the problem. I put it to sleep for another 5 minutes and the time was correct when I woke it up. Also rebooting seems to work for a period of time as well which is odd. If I shut it off, it can get the right time but if I put it to sleep, it doesnt work?

It occurred to me that when I first got my ipad I was shutting it down each night then connecting it to the charge which would start it up again. I'd leave it charging till the morning. But several days ago I wasn't using it much so it pretty much maintained a full charge and I did not shut it down or connect to the charger for a couple days. That's when I noticed the time issue. Since then and because I'm again using it frequently I'm shutting it down each night and charging it again. I haven't had the time issue since.

It may be because I was restarting it each night that I didn't see the issue when some of the others did. If so there is definitely an issue internally with it maintaing time accurately and perhaps just restarting it regularly is the solution for now. Anyway that's what I Intend to do until I see the issue addressed. Perhaps there's even a certain level of battery power/charge that affects this.

Had the iPad for about a month. Today got a message from Twitterific that the clock was out of sync with their server by a long way. Checking showed it was about 7 hours out. Corrected and all ok.
Come back to it a couple of hours later and 2 hours out again.
Seems to be related to going to sleep but have no idea why just starting to happen now.

This has been an intermittent problem for me. The time lag will be between 2-3 hours. I can't seem to find any relation to the sleep time vs the wake time in how much the time is off. It seems to be random. The only ways to fix are ti reset the clock in settings or to turn the unit off and on.

Not a huge problem as i don't rely on my iPad for time. But it is a little unnerving knowing that it canne so far off without any real obvious reasons.

Have you set "Date & Time" to "Set Automatically"?

Try this:
• Turn the iPad off and on again (hold the sleep/wake button for about 3 seconds until a red slider appears with the label "slide to power off")

• If it din't help, try a hard reset - hold the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously for about 6 seconds, until the iPad tunes off. Then turn it on again.

• Go to "Settings - General - Reset" and choose "Reset All Settings"

• If it does not help, restore the firmware with iTunes - IMPORTANT, don't let iTunes use one of your backups… set it up as a new device.

I also would like to know this. Or more specifically, where is this 'Set Automatically' option. I certainly have not been able to find it. I wish people wouldn't make suggestions to do something that doesn't exist. Or am I wrong and I just cannot find it?

It also still has not been answered if there is any automatic setting of the time at all. Thing is, on the iPhone there IS the option to 'Set Automatically'. So when it is possible to do so, it appears Apple provides the option to do it or not. So the fact that the iPad does not have the option (unless I'm wrong about that) indicates to me that there is NO automatic time sync.

Does anyone have the real answers?

If I remember right... When the iPad first came out there was an auto setting for the clock. I guess with the last iOS update removed this setting. The iPad doesn't use the Internet to keep or set time so there no need for an auto setting.

Here are two clock apps that I have that uses the Internet to set it's time. The Time app is free. It also tells you how far off the iPad internal clock is...

I have the 3G version and as of a few days ago the time is just a little over six hours off. I have tried all of the following and nothing has changed: powering off, sync with iTunes on my Mac, reset through the settings menu. Is Apple still replacing these iPads? I don't want to set it manually as I travel a lot and I like that it recognizes (or used to) the different time zones.
