Headphone volume increases when pulling out headphones?

Curious if anyone else has seen this - when I pull my headphones (I've tried with multiple headphones) out of the iPhone while the music is playing in any audio app (ipod, pandora) when the headphone plug is partially pulled out of the jack (just a small tug) the volume shoots waaaaaay up. The volume slider moves too. If I push it back in all the way it goes back down,

Issue for anyone else or do I have a defect? I can recreate it easily each time.

3gs, iPhone OS 3.1.3

Unfortunately that's not the case for me. I put the speaker volume down but when yanking the headphones out it shoots up far above the speaker level.

No, I think you have misunderstood. the above description is not what I said to do.

The headphone volume is X, the speaker volume is Y. They are unconnected. You can only change the headphone volume when the headphones are plugged in. The speaker volume can only be changed when the sound comes out of the speaker. You CANNOT change the speaker volume with the headphones plugged in.

I put the speaker volume down but when yanking the headphones out it shoots up far above the speaker level.

As the headphones were in when you changed the volume, you have not changed the speaker volume, you have changed the headphone volume.

1. Pull the headphones out.

2. Get the music coming out of the speakers and DO NOT PLUG IN ANYTHING.

3. Set the required speaker volume

4. Now plug in the headphones

5. Set the headphone volume.

6. Unplug the headphones while the music is playing and the volume from the speaker will be where you set it.
