iTunes not recognizing iPhone

hopefully i can find some help here.

whenever i plug my phone in via my USB cable my iTunes won't recognize it and it doesn't show up in the devices area.

I've tried a few of the suggestions i found on here but none seem to be working.

It also happens in my iPh4 with my dell latitude win xp laptop. Tried many many from web suggests but nothing seems to work. Finally, turn of my wifi connection from laptop ,, **** ,, just that solve the problem.
