My problem is also similar one.
I have problems in syncing and battery went off. I had installed few apps directly by double clicking from saved folder(apps were already downloaded, i also installed 2 battery monitoring apps)

While connected to itunes, it would suddenly show connection lost and reconnect again after every few minutes. I thought the problem was with laptop or itunes so i tried charging from electricity connection but didnt work. I found the iphone was heated and also saw some black spots(as if fused) on the USB charger connection port.

i tried entering DFU mode but that dont work either since the battery is zero. It shows connect to charge battery alert and goes blank.

Is the battery gone dead or ther eis other software issue?
Pls help!!!!!
Many thanks for your time.

as the mighty mouse theme song says "here i come to save the day!!!"

just got off the phone APple Care, Ellen was a great help. she said you have to remove 5 different porgrams from you computer then reinstall iTunes...

here are they programs and you have to delete them in order

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:

iTunes
QuickTime
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

once i did this, i installed the latest iTunes and all was well!!

Hi, I did all the suggestions on the support site, upgraded to XP Service Pack 3, restarted the phone, turned off wifi on both phone and notebook, uninstalled all the apple software in the order that they said (although I have Bonjour in another application but it doesn't show up in Control Panel).

None of this works. The phone is charging when connected to the USB port, but it appears as an external drive and not as an apple device or iphone.

All this was working fine before and it just stopped one day.

The new itunes 9.2 which I reinstalled recognizes my ipod Video but just won't recognize iphone. I want to upgrade the phone OS and now I simply cannot do it as you need itunes.

HELP!

I just wanted to add that I have had the same problem. I'm on WinXP Pro SP3 with an iPhone 3G and I've reinstalled iTunes a ton of times. I'm currently at 9.2.0.61.
I had this problem and got my phone working once by deinstalling everything apple related using control panel, then deleting the c:\program files\common files\apple directory, then rebooting the computer, then reinstalling itunes.
However, the next time I connected my phone, it wasn't recognized again.
So, as of today, I'm stuck.
I also just received my iPhone 4, and that isn't recognized either.

I think it's important to note that my computer recognizes it because in device manager, it shows up as a camera and as an apple mobile device. It also charges just fine. Last but not least, my iPod 5g works just fine with iTunes.

As with many others here, I've been through all the troubleshooting steps recommended by Apple and nothing seems to help (msconfig included).

So, I'm very interested in anything that any of you might find, and I'll make sure I share my findings as well.

Hi,

So Im having some similar problems with my Iphone 3GS (16g, white) Literally this afternoon, I noticed it needed a charge, so I tried plugging it into the usual wall socket in which I use, I then noticed it hadnt started its charge. So I moved it to another power point in my house and luckily it charged, so I left it for an hour to charge up and then took it off charge and continued to use it as normal. A few hours later, just before I head out to work I go to top up the charge as I am going to be out for a while. I plug it into numerous sockets in the house and absolutely nothing happens, it dosent recognise the charger. So I decide to try hooking it up to my laptop, I plug it into the usb and instead of the usual itunes startup and sync it does windows displays a bubble saying 'unknown device' and then another one afterwards saying something along the lines of 'the device has malfunctioned'. I try turning it off and on again, I have even tried the reboot/reset thing holding sleep and the home button but again it will not charge or be recognised by my laptop.

I know its not a problem with the power lead as I have turned the phone off and inserted the lead and the phone recognises it by bringing up the apple logo from the black off screen and turning the device on but it will not charge from there at all.

Any help at all??? Ive literally only had it 5 months, I very rarely plug it into my computer probably once a monthish...I dont know what to do?

Help?!
