Fixed my slow iPad Wi-Fi issue, here is what I found...

I believe the iPad may have a issue if the router's QoS (Quality of Service) is enabled. I have a Linksys WRT300N router and when I disabled the QoS my download speed went from ~500Kbps to ~13000Kbps. This QoS setting does is not affecting my iPhone and iPod devices, only the iPad.

I have not experienced any signal issues, so I don't know if this will resolve those issues. I have informed Apple of my findings. QoS is a common feature on many routers, so if you are experiencing Wi-Fi issues please disable QoS in your router and let everybody know if this fixes your problem. Please report back your routers make/model and where to find the QoS setting.

If your were experiencing signal issues and after applying this patch resolves those issues please let everybody know by responding to this thread.

Well written for us newbies. unfortunately didn't work for me. Qos is disabled; i disabled the MMS, then i reset the network as you suggested. My download hassle is mostly emails--minutes for some even without an attachment. Looks like i have to go visit the i-pad store. I do only have a G modem/router (Sagemcom 1704 Windstream). is that just too out of date? only a year old.

I disable WMM and tripled my speed, but could no longer connect to my wi-fi router. Then I found this on Apple's website...

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3727

WMM must be enabled for devices to connect. Disabling WMM on your wireless router can prevent the following Apple products from connecting to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network:

 • iPad
 • iPhone
 • iPod touch
 • Apple TV

Does this suck as much as it sounds like it does?

Apparently nothing has been done to rectify the wifi connection issue, at wife and I purchased two 3rd generation iPads and are frequently being disconnected from our wifi at home and my wife at work is the same. We have Verizon router at home which was recently replaced, regardless, this is isolated to the iPad because we have new 27 inch iMacs, iPhones All running the latest os and even windows 7 running i7 all maintain connection. Love the device but this doesn't seem like a problem that's going away, all these other comments on seemingly the same issue yet a previous model makes me rethink this purchase.

What has ended up working for me is ignoring Apple's claim that WMM must be enabled to connect. That's clearly what's causing the slow speeds. My iOS devices do not connect with WMM disabled, but only when using Wireless-N Only. Once I select 'Mixed' (as in Wireless B, G,N) instead, and disable WMM, I'm able to connect at the speeds one would expect to connect at.

We have an iPad 2 & an iPad 3 in the house. The iPad 2 could download a movie in less than 10 minutes while the brand new iPad 3 took all day. Yesterday I connected my iPad 2 to my laptop and incidentally "restore" it back to the factory status. It is now just as slow as the iPad 3. I suspect it has something to do with the newest OS by Apple.

As for trying different ways to solve the slow download problem for my iPad 3. I have tried them all, but none works. Here is a list of what I have gone through:

1. Took it to the Apple store. The tech reloaded the software.

2. Swapped to another brand new iPad 3.

3. Changed the router setting to g only; disabled WMM (there is no QOS listed on my router.)

Both iPads are 16gb wi-fi only. The router is netgear WRT614 v7.

We bought iPad 3 because the iPad 2 worked so well. Before Apple can come up with a fix the download problem, I would not recommend anyone to get any iPad. It has literally taken me several days and nights trying to resolve this.

The fact that iPad 2 originally had worked so well with our router to begin with until it got restored makes me less concern with router than with the software which came with the restore.

The iPad 3 can get decent download speed (5ookb) at my work if I place it where it can get full bar of reception. It's not great, but acceptable. However, if I walk a little further where ther is eve one bar shorter of full, the download becomes crawling again.
