Keep losing internet connection

I have a 27 inch iMac that I bought just after they came out. I will be connected to the internet just fine and then all of sudden I lose internet connectivity. I got up and click the airport icon and it doesn't list any networks. If I restart my computer I can connect again for a day or two before this happens again.

*I finally fixed this by switching from 802.11n to 802.11g.*

Every wireless access point has an option to use b/g/n and most are configured by default to automatically select based on the initial wireless connection request. Forcing it to use 802.11g only really did the trick.

Sucky being stuck at 54Mbps max throughput but for general internet use this is usually way quicker than your internet connection anyway.

As I understand it 802.11n is a draft specification so it shouldn't really be a surprise there are interoperability issues with many wireless access point that support this standard.

Same problem here across my network with six macs of various vintage (G5 PowerMac through latest MacBook Pro) plus an iPad. All can see the several Air Express and both of the Time Capsule units on the network but all periodically are dropping their internet connections and cannot reconnect no matter how I restart, switch among the broadcasting units or assign addresses manually. Restarting the cable router appears to help --sometimes -- but at other times some random combination of restarts and switching appears to get a machine back on the internet. This is a new problem; previously all the units on the network were working perfectly. This all started happening with the latest air express update. Apple, please fix this asap.

Well, Im ready to kill something!!! I have tried everything I could find on this subject and nothing, I repeat nothing, works. This forum, other forums, nothing. I had a G5 iMac with an airport extreme that worked flawlessly. Used my G4 Powerbook, a G4 800mghz iMac and an iPhone to jump on since '04 and again, flawless. The G5 went belly up last Nov and I got a used 24" iMac running 10.6.6 4gigs of ram and a 1 terra HD. Since it was used, did a fresh install, and it worked fine until late Dec. Now, it drops internet connections all the time, multiple times a day. Like everyone else, have to unplug my airport/plug back in to get it working. We left on vacation last week and I unplugged everything while we were gone, now, it wont work at all. I have to plug the router directly in the imac for internet to work, and it does flawlessly. So, it has to be the airport right? Do I need a different router? I have a verizon fios one (its actually a ActionTec MI424-WR). Is my airport too old, bought it in '03 I think. Is it 10.6.6? I cant believe Apple has not fixed this problem since this post and others started years ago. Man I'm at my wits end!User uploaded file

Internet Connection FREEZES. You can see the freeze right after the www. I have tried to disconnect from router in Airport (works intermittently) turing router on and off (works most of the time. We have a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and the issue arises mostly with both of those. It just started happening with our Mac - today and hence I am writing.
The issue is not a slow connection but an absolute freeze until I take some action. I have tried resetting Safari and that does not help.

Do others have this freeze issue and any solution for a non tech head?

I can confirm this wifi/airport issue. My wifi is on, but in browser or any other action that requires internet access, it works fine for about 30 seconds or so, but then after this, I always have to move my mouse pointer over the airport icon at the top of my desktop to kickstart the connection again.

Is there no one that has a solution for that or is Apple really lousy at wifi (note that the wifi also drops all the time now on the iPad since iOS 4.2)?

I should also mention that I use Parallels 6 on the MBA as well, running Windows 7, and the wifi on that side of the MBA also keeps dropping - here too I have to move mouse pointer over network icon in taskbar to kickstart it again.

My wifi router is a D-LINK Dir-655 by the way, but I am thinking of getting an Airport base station now....although based on this many other support requests all over the Internet, that may not really solve the issue.

I am also having the same problem on my Mid 2011 iMac 27inch with i7 processor - if I go to System settings/Network/Assist Me/Network Diagnostics it will say my ISP has failed, but I can then reconnect to my network without problems. Unfortunately this is very inconvenient as I am having to do it at LEAST 10 times per day and there are no problems with my 3.1 17 inch Macbook Pro (also running SL) on the same Network (although the upgrade to Snow Leopard on this did stop the DVD player from being able to burn on any media type - ironic considering I also have Window's Vista on it and the DVD burns fine through this). In short, I have had nothing but problems since "upgrading" my Macbook Pro to Snow Leopard, and it looks like the change to a brand new computer has not been an adequate solution.

I too am exasperated with the same problem as DamenS and many above. I have a 2010 iMac27 connected (password protected) to my Virgin superhub. Wireless wifi works perfectly with my iphone 4, but my iMac keeps dropping the signal: I can get onto one internet page but when I go to another the internet connection goes. I still have five bright connection bars, but no internet! As previously reported" if I go to System settings/Network/Assist Me/Network Diagnostics it will say my ISP has failed, but I can then reconnect to my network without problems".

However, I don't know if this is relevant and may help to further dissect the problem, but I can also access another (? a neighbours) wireless network - it is not password protected - and my iMac connects to the internet perfectly well without any episodes of dropping. So - if its not the router, is it something to do with the security??

I am going to try the MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.3v1.1dmg today ....praying !!

I just bought an iMac 27" 10.7.2 (Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5) (Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3). I have a comcast xfinity modem & wireless and have a mac book pro, 2 macbooks, an ipad & iphone, and this imac connected to it. They all run smoothly and never have any problems but this imac keeps going offline every 5 minutes - every hour (it varies). Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Is there something I need to change with my modem? I've read it has something to do with the ipad affecting something, but I'm not sure. I attached an image of my diagnostics, and what I've noticed is that when my computer loses connection, everything remains green except for the ISP, Internet, & Server, which turn red. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Alright folks,

I've got the same problem as most of ye, I have a 27" imac that cost me 3 thounand euro which i bought in 2011 from Apple. 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 processor/16GB Memory. I am running Os X 10.6.8. My connection goes every few minutes when i leave it idol, the airport bar is up to its fullest when this happens tho, the way i get it back is by turning off the airport and diagnose which it gives me the option to when the page does not load. Im so sick of these little bugs in products that we pay big money for when Apple glorifies themselfs as the top dog for computing products. If Apple can fix this problem then i suggest they put up a video on youtube to give us a tutorial on how to, or if anyone knows then maybe they could upload a video because it is wrecking my brain at this stage.

*SOMEONE PLEASE HELP SOLVE THIS PROBLEM*

Hi guys,

I bought a used imac and it's been working fine for a few months and I just had this problem. I asked around on another forum I'm on and someone said it was an IP conflict and to hook it up with the ethernet cable and if that didn't go into preferences and some other crap. Well I had an easier idea and it worked well.

Turned off my imac. The only other wifi device in my house that was turned on my iphone. So I turned it off as well. Turned on the imac and let it grab it's new ip address and it worked. Turned on my iphone and connected to wifi and bam now both of them are working great.

So turn off ALL wifi devices and if you have anything hard wired unplug those for good measure, turn on the problem mac first then the rest on after.

Hope this helps some of you!
