Contacts list not in alphabetical order

I select Contact on the iPhone, goto 'A', but using the right-side vertical navigation bar. When I get to 'A', it shows me all contacts that have 'A' in the name. I just want to see only the contacts starting with 'A'.

Is this possible? Thanks in advance for your help.

If you go into settings on the iPhone and then Mail, Contacts, Calendar, there is a place for the settings on how contacts are sorted and displayed. It allows you to set the sort order, and the display order, either lastname, firstname; or firstname, lastname. They can both be different if you want.

If you are going to contacts and touch the A, you should get the contacts that either the lastname or the firstname start with A, depending on how you have them sorted. If you are getting something other than that, there is a problem. It will not just show the A's, it will start with A and then depending on how many you have, will continue down.

I hope that explains it for you.
