Road Runner Ipad

Anyone figure out how to configure Ipad to read mail from a Time Warner Road Runner email account. Nothing seems to work.

I just spoke with RR and Apple. RR wasn't much help except that I learned that they don't authenticate their outgoing messages. Apple resolved the problem by enabling the ATT SMTP outgoing server (but this approach will only work with those who have ATT). For some reason, RR won't send messages through WIFI, but will through 3G. So, when the ATT server is enabled, iPad will first try to send through the WIFI, but once it doesn't work, it will automatically send through the ATT server (which works). Not sure why this is, but it works!

"Yes, My RR works OK. The servers are:

Read: pop-server.carolina.rr.com
Send: smtp-server.carolina.rr.com

If you're not in the Carolinas than the server name would change slightly. Check your Mail account preferences to see."

I guess this will somewhat contradict other statements but I had this problem with the iPad and roadrunner right away and in fact it was also true on my iPod touch, I would later discover. I'd spoken to both Apple and TWC about it. TWC told me that from their point of view of view this is expected behavior on Apple devices, even when you are using TWC wirelessly, and they did not know of anything Apple would be (or could be) doing to change that.

My workaround was to just use Google's GMail server for sending roadrunner email. Yes, this means when someone replies to it, it would go back to GMail, not roadrunner... but when we get the iOS 4 update we'll have a single inbox anyway so who cares LOL

I just began to work with my new ipad tonight.. checked email and began to respond to 4 or 5 to try out typing on the screen (Much better than ipod touch for sure) then I realized, NONE were going anywhere.. after retracing the settings on Touch - i found the best scenario as described a few back:

SSL OFF
default is password for authentication - change to md5 challenge response
I also repeated the smtp-server.carolina.rr.com for additional server and set them to 110 and 587 also I do have att ON.. once i did this the 4 emails went out with no problem. Now do i know if they went via rr or att.. nope.. but they went?? note account will not verify without SSL.. just ok it to be set up without and give these settings a try.

Yes, this is on a RR network.. i have never been able to get outmail to work with different network, but at least seems to have solved the problem here ON the RR network..

good luck,
Jeff

Roadrunner email WAS working on my iPad since May '10 until a couple of weeks ago. I was able to RECEIVE email using any hot spot, and I could SEND email when on my home WiFi on the Roadrunner network. I can no longer connect (receive OR send mail) even when connected to the Roadrunner network from home. Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience (had been working until a couple of weeks ago then stopped) and if there is a fix. Thanks!

BTW Roadrunner in Northeast Ohio. Server setting are ...roadrunner.com

I am also one of the lucky ones that just used the default setup on the iPad and had no problems. Issues have appeared as of late however... Every time Mail finishes downloading messages from the server, Mail quits unexpectedly. Gmail works fine on the iPad. I have used the same rr account on a 4th gen. iPod Touch with iOS 4.1 and everything works fine.

Some background info here:
iPad without 3G
Time Warner cable of central ny

Does anyone think RR has different settings in different areas?
