Road Runner Ipad

Anyone figure out how to configure Ipad to read mail from a Time Warner Road Runner email account. Nothing seems to work.

Regarding Ipad sending RR.com email (Tampa Bay area) . I recently purchased an iPad and was having the same problems, I could receive the tampabay.rr.com email but it would not send email. I tried to use a different port number, as suggested by the rr.com help people, deleting and starting over again, I tried it all, anything anyone suggested. Finally I read somewhere that the easiest way (and it worked!) is to connect the iPad to your computer with the usb cable. When it opens in itunes, select iPad in the itunes sidebar. Click on the 'info' bar.You can synch all of your info there, scroll down to "mail accounts' and click on 'sync selected mail accounts' and click on the box any or all of them, and that will synchronize your email accounts on the iPad to be the same as your computer when the iPad synchronizes itself again. IT WORKS! now I have no problems at all receiving AND sending email with my RR account and gmail. Good luck! (ps. I am on Wi fi, I have NOT yet tried to send email when outside of the home area).

I've read the responses and have not encountered any of the issues mentioned. Perhaps the problem has been fixed. Here's my situation:

1. I have the 3G iPad
2. My mail is Time Warner Road Runner
3. To add my RR mail I did it on the iPad through the Settings function .. then Mail, Contacts, Calendars
4. I chose "Add Account" and then "Other"
5. I answered the questions that were asked and didn't have to key in any technical settings myself. It put in the correct server names. I did this for 5 RR accounts
6. I can send and receive email to any type of email account from my iPad for my 5 RR accounts with no problem at all.

IMPORTANT!!!!! I set the email up using the 3G connection. I kept getting an error message when I tried to set it up using my home Wi-Fi network.

Roadrunner tech support is no help, but I've finally figured it all out!

OK, I went through the tortures of the ****** to make this work - and RoadRunner tech support knew none of this:

1. Yes, you must use your regional pop and smtp addresses. Example for Los Angeles: pop-server.socal.rr.com and smtp-server.socal.rr.com. Nothing else will work (don't use Roadrunner's suggested 'pop-server.roadrunner.com'). If you don't know your regional addresses, just Google 'Roadrunner pop smtp <city or region name>' - lots of sites have this info.

2. Your user name is your full email address - xxx@roadrunner.com

3. When setting up, it will take a while to verify, then ask if it should try without SSL - YES.

4. Yes, you need to add your full user name and password to use SMTP (again, no SSL). And, yes, I'm using a wi-fi enabled iPad, and have no problem sending email on whatever wi-fi network I'm connected to. That's why username and password are important.

I've set this up on my iPad and three others in my household and neighbor's household - and it's worked every time. It also runs counter to all of the 'help' that you get on Roadrunner's site and from their tech support.

Good luck, everyone!

Just had the same problem and called roadrunner helps ( brighthouse ) I live in central Florida which may make a difference. I was told that the ipad had to have "mobile-smtp.roadrunner.com" for the outgoing server, as does all mobile units, including iphone. I made the change and all works well! Hope this is good for you too.

I won't take credit for this, but it worked for me on my new iPad (3rd Gen.). Just replace your location in the first bullet as necessary for your own Roadrunner service:

NOTE: Make sure you select iPad's "OTHER" email option when setting the email up, NOT the Microsoft Exchange one.

These are the altered settings for the outgoing email side only (SMTP) - at least the ones I found & that worked for me:

  • smtp-server.wi.com
  • SMTP user ID and password set to <blank> (leave these blocks blank)
  • SSL set to “off”
  • Authentication set to “MD5 Challenge-Response”
  • Server port to 587

The rest of the setup for incoming (POP) email worked as seen at this roadrunner help website - do NOT use their SMTP settings 'cause they didn't work for me: http://help.rr.com/hmsfaqs/e_rrmail_emailSettings_iphone.aspx

That should do it. I am far from an expert so please don't pepper me with other iPad questions. I'm struggling too. 😉

BTW: I'm in Milwaukee, WI using Time Warner's Roadrunner service
