Mini Display Port -> HDMI

Same here I have a stock 13" MBPro and I can't get any audio out via HDMI.
Currently using "CablesToGo" model # 54161. Does anyone have any idea how to get this to work?

To update my previous post, I did get the audio to work in combination with video using the Griffin Video Display Converter (P/N GC17096) with a Mediabridge 1.3c, Cat. 2, 10-ft HDMI cable.

I turned on the TV and selected the correct source. I then connected the HDMI Cable to my Denon AVR, connected the adapter to the other end of the HDMI cable, and then plugged it into the mini display port of the 15" MBP i7.

On the AVR, I then selected the mode that corresponded to the HDMI input (I used the DVD HDMI slot, so I selected DVD)

On the MBP, I went to the "Sound" part of System Preferences, and from there, clicked on the Output tab. The AVR was shown, by name, as a device on the list, so I selected it.

I was then able to hear the audio through the speakers connected to the AVR. I used the AirMouse pro app. on my iPod Touch as a remote. It was pretty satisfying.

I have to agree that it seems like it might be an issue with the MBP. It would be nice if Apple posted a list of compatible adapters...

The page on MonoPrice says "DisplayPort v1.1 * Does not support audio" but it isn't clear if this is the spec that their adapter meets or if they are warning about using it on older displayports.

Anyone try this one?

Also, my TV (46" Sony) doesn't recognize the video signal. Tried it on my friend's Sammy and the video worked, but still no sound.

Been trying to contact Apple, Monoprice, etc. to figure out a solution.

The listing you included clearly says it does not support audio about half way down the page.

Now it says that. When I ordered last week it did not. In fact, I just talked to a monoprice tech that stated that they currently do not offer a 1 cable/adapter solution unless you get the USB/miniDP combo.

I will be returning my cable and getting the Griffin one unless there's a cheaper one that others confirm work with audio.

It's OOS online, but if there is a physical store near you you can pick it up for $20.

It appears that you can also order it from Amazon for around $5. Yes, my local Fry's is also supposed to have it available for $20. For $5, it seems like a no brainer to give Amazon a shot.

I can confirm that cable #5996 (mini displayport->HDMI) from Monoprice does not carry audio. Video quality is beautiful though.

Hello,

I just recently got an iMac 27" i7. I found on the apple support page saying the late 2009 iMac 27" has the audio supported with the mini display port, just as the 2010 macbook pro does. If this is true I have yet to hear of anybody actually doing it. Can anybody confirm this to work? And if this is the truth, what mini display port to HDMI that supports audio is available and would work?

I just tried the one from Fry's and the audio does not go through...any ideas how to make it work? the video is excellent.!
