The second day I had mine it was fine. That was the day after the "launch". I watched a goofy 3-4 minute video my dad wanted to see. I hadn't tried Youtube on it again until last night. It would start buffering, then start the video, then the video would stop and I had to hit the "Play" arrow to get it to start again, then it would stop again and I had to do it again. The buffering also seemed to stop every time the streaming video stopped. The buffer stayed ahead of the stream, it just stopped all the time... Not good.

I generally have the same issue with my iPad when using the YouTube app. The odd thing is that I can watch a Netflix video and not experience the same problem. Netflix locks up on me occasionally, and throws me back to the Home screen, but I have all but given up on YouTube.

In case this applies to others with similar issues, I seem to have "slow" wireless with the iPad at home, but have not experienced any connection drops--thankfully. I have a newly refurbished Airport Extreme on RoadRunner. I haven't taken the iPad out any field trips yet as I was terrified I would be the idiot to drop it on the floor at Panera. "And tonight on the News at Nine, a local a woman commits sucide with a plastic knife after dropping her iPad at a downtown cafe; we hope to bring you video at 11:00, so please tune in for the latest on this tragic story."

I received the Belkin Grip Pad yesterday and feel much better about life in general now...

I'm having serious issues with YouTube content on my 16GB Wifi iPad

I've tested playing YouTube on 3 different Wifi hotspots and streaming performance is terrible on all of them.

One thing I've noticed is that the videos I'm having most problems with are HD videos. For example this video runs for 2mins 51secs. Using the iPad this is still streaming after 25 minutes, and has more or less stalled after having only streamed half the content. When I try to stream the same video on my laptop (using the same Wifi network) it takes 2 minutes to fully stream.

On the other 2 wifi networks I tested on, I was not able to improve on this stream time using the iPad.

I was able to identify the problem and why the buffering on the iPad is slow. When I play a YouTube video on my laptop, the quality is set to 360p 0 I can amend this as I want. Obviously the lower the quality the faster the buffering.

However on the iPad YouTube App the quality is automatically set to the highest quality available, and there is no option to change this. This means that if your download speed is not high, then it is going to take a long time to download.

I did a like for like test on a YouTube video using the iPad app, and on my laptop (setting the video quality to 720p), and the buffering time was equally as poor on both.

A setting needs to be put on the iPad YouTube App that allows the user to configure the quality setting.

I was actually glad this WiFi issue is somewhat documented online. I took my 64gb back today after noticing the video buffering would just stop or would always fall back and cause video stops. This did not happen on any of my other wireless devices pulling up the same video.

I took mine back to Best Buy this morning and was issued a full refund. This device is just not feature rich enough to have issues that cripple what features it does have.
