Kindle Books to iBooks

You can't convert Kindle books. They are proprietary (.azw) format and DRM'ed, as others have stated. Instead, download the free Kindle app to read your Kindle books. I use it and it works fine.

I'm pretty sure they are drm'ed, so you can't convert them.

However as stated, if the book is copyrighted, then Amazon puts in DRM, and you will get the following error:

Could not convert: <book title>. It is a DRMed book. You must first remove the DRM using third party tools.

Removing DRM is a sticky legal matter, so proceed at your own risk.

I'd bet a lot that the one and only way you'll ever get iBook to read anything, is if you buy it through the iBook store.

Why would you think that? People documented two weeks ago how ibook handles other epubs.

I don't mean free epub books drm free, I mean commercial books. Of course you can always get free books. But purchasing books? They're all drm'ed and if they're not in the iBooks store, then you're not gonna read them in iBooks.

True in theory, but I think Kindle owners have long ago found ways to read their purchases on other devices.

Nobody is going to step in here and tell you how to defeat DRM protections on your Kindle books. It would be a breech of the terms for use of this discussion board.

I would suggest you use search tools on your browser to seek answers elsewhere.

This is not a true statement. AZW format is Amazon's adaptation of MOBI format. I have only done the research and never done it myself, but I do know that it is possible to "unDRM" Amazon books and convert them into books readable by iBooks. However, as already stated, this is illegal, a violation of Amazon's terms of service and I am not sanctioning doing it in any way.

Calibre will not do it for you. You need to use google and search for tools. The mobileread.com is a great start point for all ebook discussions (but even that forum discourages DRM related discussions.
