Zombie Changes to Domain/Host Name in Mail Settings Window

For the second time since setting it up, the domain name has changed from "domain.com" to "local", and the host name has changed from "myserver.domain.com" to "myserver.local".

This tends to screw up my mail services.

I cannot determine why this would change, by itself, without any external intervention from anyone.

Suggestions?

There's no automatic mechanism that resets this stuff.

This either works, or something has been missed.

There's a DNS server error or a DNS configuration error, or potentially a DHCP error (with its associated specification of the DNS server, and that the addresses get reloaded when the DHCP leases are renewed), or there are remote DNS server references erroneously mixed with with the local DNS server references. Or call in somebody to look at your configuration.

FWIW, the wildcard DNS domain stuff does not work as it had starting on 10.6.3, based on some local testing. I didn't get to the bottom of that, and ended up swapping away from the syntax.

As for your configuration, I'd probably pitch the entire local DNS configuration in its entirety, and I'd pitch the external DNS references, and I'd pitch the DHCP server configuration, and I'd pitch any assistance from that D-link, and I'd pitch any assistance from the ISP modem, and rebuild it all.
