Cannot Get mail - the connection to the server " " failed

Hi,
I tried to configure email on the new iPad. I have connection to the internet via wifi and can reach web mail. But however I try to configure email every time I got message that "Cannot Get Mail - the connection to the server "xxx" failed. I'm 100% sure that all information such a server, user name and password are correct because I'm using this account also in my MacBook.
Can somebody help me? Why I cannot configure mail in my iPad successfuly? Does it work with servers which I got from provider or it is necessary put something special?
Thanks for any help.

After mucking around for hours, with the iPad Mini - with Telstra Support etc, (can't vouch for iPad) I can confirm that when you experience an "unable to connect to pop.this.that - verify user name etc" even when the settings are known to be good (on a PC using Outlook, an iPhone)

  1. Ensure IOS is updated (IOS 7.0.6) as of March 6th, 2014
  2. Turn off WIFI even it is not being used
  3. Delete the mail account
  4. Turn the iPad back on - ensure WIFI is still off
  5. Recreate the Mail Account as POP
  6. Say Yes - do not use SSL as required
  7. Get your Ticks!
  8. Open Mail - and all should be Ok.
  9. Turn WIFI on, but don't connect - i.e. still using 4G - all still Ok
  10. With WIFI on - and connected - Still Ok.
  11. Of course Send - all still Ok.

Wow. This could potentially cost my client much more than the value of the iPad!
