MBP i7 shipping from Shanghai, China!?

I finally got a FedEx notice that my 15" MBP just shipped... from Shanghai, China. Why does this give me pause? I'm sure that's the origin of all Apple products anyway, but I guess I'm worried that there is a level of QA-check that will be missing.

It's probably nothing, but in the past I'd always bought from an Apple store. Was quite surprised to see "Shanghai, China" on the FedEx departure location. That's quite a long (and I'm sure rough) journey.

Keeping fingers crossed...

Mac OS X (10.5.8), Mac Pro 2 x 2.66Ghz Quad-Core w/24"Apple Cinema | 15" 2.66GHz i7 MacBook Pro (on order)

Get very used to it. I work with a company in China and the main thing they strive for is quality and functionality. Do I think we should destroy our infrastructure? No. No country should, it is very, very shortsighted and based on greed but this is where we are and most countries are around the world, except for the noted few.

I ordered an i7 very recently and it got here 2 days, no 3 days prior to the estimated date as it was near the weekend. Even at that Apple refunded my charge for expedited delivery because it was showing the weekend, which I hadn't realized would make it a longer delivery than the 2 or 3 days. As it turned out though, it took a little over 2 days for the delivery.

However, that's not really my issue. I have this crazy notion that products bought from the Apple stores undergo one final check for possible shipping damage or manufacturing defects before being sold. I'm sure that's a false assumption, but it gives me a warm fuzzy nonetheless.

Negative. I use to work in the stores and the only QC that I use to do when I went in the back to grab a customer's new computer was inspect the box. If the box was damaged in shipping it would usually be returned to Elk Grove, CA or Austin, TX (based on the machine). But under no circumstances would I open the box or power on the machine. Matter of fact if the "sealed at the factory" seal was broken prior to presenting the product to the customer, I couldn't sell it.
