Purple Finder Folder

There is a strange transparent purple colour over my finder icon on the dock. It's been like this for a while now. I have customised other icons, maybe this has something to do with it?
Here's a screen shot:

Can anyone help please?

Hi Steve,
I downloaded only a few different types of different icons from the Apple website. The process was just copying the particular icon and then going into 'Get Info' and pasting on the folder at the top in order to change the design. I was mainly doing it with command C and then command V.
If it's going to hurt my mac in anyway I'd rather get rid of the customised icons. But i just love personally designing things and didn't think it would cause a problem.

Thanks 🙂

That's super odd! Weird!

Try these things (in system preferences, dock) change where the dock is (left or right). What happens?

What if you check automatically show/hide dock. What happens? (or uncheck it if its already checked)

Change the dock size and play around with other stuff in that preference pain and see if that makes a difference... does anything change.

Does anything change when you click on finder? What about after restarting?

Lastly, if you make a guest account (don't do this if you are running 10.6.0 or 10.6.1) - but its safe on 10.5.anything 10.6.2 and 10.6.3) in system prefs - accounts, is the finder icon still like that?

Sorry for such a long list, that's all I can think of...

I have a similar glitch appeared on 10.6.3.

Playing with dock prefs makes no difference. The resources in the library>core services>finder (package contents)>resources>finder icons contains five differently sized but apparently standard finder icons. No line above. 😟

There is someone else with this issue over in macosxhints here
http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=108083

I don't have a vanilla system but I am fairly restrained when it comes to lots of 'haxies' and system wide customisation. I will try the guest account thing but better post this first.

Macosnoob over in macosxhints suggested the following which sorted the issue

So, the Dock works as expected in another account? That fact suggests Dock.app itself has not been directly altered. (There are ways to change the indicator by modifying the contents of Dock.app, but if you don't recall making such a modification and a different account's Dock works properly, Dock.app must be good.) Try deleting the Dock's preferences in the problem account: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist. You'll also need to open Terminal and enter

killall Dock

to relaunch the Dock from the new system-generated plist.
