New Powerbook Audio Stutter / Looping / Echo problem

I though people would like to hear the problem that some of the 15" and 17" powerbooks have been having.

I tried recording the sound from iTunes using Audio Hijack, but when the weird audio issue happened and I played back the recording, you couldn't hear it in the recording (i.e. it played normally), so it seems to me that it's related to some basic audio issue (because Audio Hijack couldn't hear it when it was recording iTunes) rather than a specific application.

I was able to record the sound using a cable from my powerbook to another computer (which then recorded the line-in using Audio Hijack).

Here's a short quicktime capture of the sound:

Has anyone heard anything about a fix? It doesn't seem to be related to Airport use for me since I don't often use Airport at home.

So far so good.

Installed the update and no stutters. Here is everything I'm running simultaneously.

iTunes playing
2 DJ Programs running but not playing music
Real playing Invader Zim
VLC playing Long Way Round
Adium running
DVD playing Appleseed
Quicktime running a looped music vid
Launched Classic

I even loaded up this big azz thread and no problems, although I never had it as bad as you guys.

Well, 10.4.5 is out.

10.4.5 web page says nothing about audio:

No, but the tech doc does now say that upgrading to 10.4.5 is the solution to the stutter problem (go figure!):

When you are running two or more audio applications on your PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) or PowerBook G4 (17-inch Double-Layer SD), the audio may intermittently stutter, echo, or skip backwards. This can happen even if one audio application isn't playing or you have the sound muted in the application (such as when playing a game).

This can involve any application that uses audio, such as QuickTime, iTunes, iDVD, and many third-party applications like games and audio applications.

To avoid this, update your computer to Mac OS X 10.4.5.

this you can find in the KB

wow really nice communication strategy

Remember Our KBase doc that used to say "Run one program at a time?"

Now look at it!
It has been updated, changed to say "Install 10.4.5 to avoid this problem"

That's news my ears have been waiting to hear.

Cross your respective fingers guys.
